This is a two dayum day.

Dayum #1 . I welcome the influx of new cyclists on the MUP, but some of them need to learn that "On your left" isn't code for "Get the fork out of my way". The joggers and walkers (if we can call them that any more) were polite. It give us a bad name.

Dayum #2 . 66F and sunny today, perfect riding weather. Tomorrow: winter advisory, 1-3 inches of snow after freezing rain.

Just checked out Strava 50+. Holy moly, there was some incredible mileage put out there, including a double, several centuries, and a 400K brevet. Well done, everybody.

Well I was NOT ready for this ride yet:

Frederick Boonsboro Sharpsburg by jimf22003 at Garmin Connect - Details

64 miles, 6.9K of climbing over (and over) the Catoctin Mt Range outside of Frederick, MD. There were some really killer 16-20% grades on Hamburg Rd, Monument Rd et al, plus just tons of garden-variety 10-12% stuff. According to Garmin, I got up to nearly 50MPH on the downhills. I thought was being pretty conservative with the brakes because there was still lots of sand and junk on the roads.

Part of the route followed the Civil War Century route, but in reverse, from Sharpsburg over to Burkittsiville. It always seems odd to cross over the gap at Gathland State Park without seeing it mobbed by cyclists at the rest stop. The wind was nasty strong but fortunately when it was the strongest headwind I was sheltered by the trees. There was a long wide open stretch heading back into Frederick that was pretty demoralizing. I had an alternative 85 mile route planned but when I came to the decision point, there was no decision. I had enough!

Tough ride, and Blair Witch territory to boot.

26 extremely windy miles with my Sunday Bicycle Riders Group. Some very nice speeds with the tailwinds but the tailwinds weren't there for much of the ride.

34 miles outside of Gainesville, sunny but lots of wind today. Those light carbon bikes are a bit twitchier in these conditions, and no doubt it cuts down your speed, even if tucked in.

So I rode Tues, Thurs, Sat and today, I forgot the Garmin on Tuesday, but I'd add 36 to the 140 that it did register. I feel great! I wish I could do this every week!

I keep reading these posts of folks that do 50, 60, 70, even 100 miles. I envy (in a good way) that kind of endurance, and it helps push me in my goals and rides. I'll get there.........

34 miles yesterday in the McClinchy Mile bicycle ride, Arlington, WA to Stanwood, WA and back. My first organized ride of the season. Mostly flat to rolling through beautiful farm land. I was passing people and no one passed me. More miles to go as the bicycling season begins. I turn 59 at the end of the month. B.I.K.E.S. Club of Snohomish County - McClinchy Mile Ride

Had our daVinci tandem modified with a kid stoker kit. Did 13 miles with our 6 y/o grandson on the back and he had a blast. He has a big motor for a little guy; fortunately, at his weight he didn't rock things too much when he put the power down. Next step is familiarizing my son with the tandem and they should be off and running when I "lend" them the bike.

8 miles after work this evening. Not really warm enough - low 40's - but the sun was shining and the wind wasn't blowing.............

I haven't been able to ride for the past three days and it's driving me nuts!

But, no complaint, I just started riding again after about a 30-year layoff. So far, I've ridden 3X in the past week for a total of about 25 miles. I've been having a blast and, already, I feel the benefits of spinning & breathing. I've been riding the public paved & dirt pathways around here, and haven't jumped into any busy traffic, yet. It's bad here so I'll ease in soon enough, when I'm ready - probably tomorrow.

Twelve miles on the Screamer this evening. A little windy but sunny and low 50's so no complaints here.
