Back to the question of the day: it is interesting, but I'm not sure I agree with the reason you advance.

I should imagine that C & V is, in that respect, rather more like one would imagine a Forum for collectors of Royal Doulton or Minton. One would expect such a forum to contain many images of precious objects proudly displayed by their owners.

Nothing wrong with that; nothing at all.

?
I did not advance a reason.
I pointed something out with the aid of sarcasm.
I happen to agree with you and believe that under normal circumstances there is no reason at all to not post your bikes on a forum dedicated to the discussion of your bikes and bikes in general.
I also believe that almost every reason put forth in this thread against posting your bikes or even the state you live in is fairly ridiculous.
Cruising an internet forum but having issue with being part of the Facebook crowd? Huh?
Theft? Are there still people on the internet that are so naive they don't understand that a 6th grader can obtain your ip address and find you within minutes with ease?
Bragging? You addressed that quite nicely when you referenced the C&V thread.
My favorite though is the ridiculous analogy about also posting how many jackets you have in your closet lol

Oops ... sorry!
Bold: yes, I know; I was just playing along and piling on
Underscored: actually, my attitude is the same as that of Chasm54 -- who cares? Post (bikes; precise location) or not -- all the same to me. What is amusing is a thread on the topic that is now into its fifth page; that is funny.
My hope is that the new 'steel vs. aluminum' thread will reach the same dizzy heights!

List the bikes, it's a bikes forum. Location is optional since that is less critical to the forums.

I cant wait for spring. It's been a long winter.

It was a lwo blowe because it is so sad and so true ... but it was still really funny.

Hmmm ... I should look into that ... maybe I could buy some houses and sue .... except no one in Flint has anything worth taking in court.

Stupid human tricks at their finest, right there. Joking is the only way to bear it.
Nothing to do with the water fiasco- You could buy a house in Flint for $1,000 before the water issue, just as you can in Detroit. The thing is, no one wants to live in a crime-ridden ghetto and have to deal with anal building codes and permits and taxes while trying to rehab a decrepit house; and where there are more empty houses than renters. Look at the residential real estate category on Ebay....at least 50% of the houses listed are in Detroit- most ranging from a few hundred dollars to a couple of thousand.

A friend of mine bought a duplex in a dead town in western PA. for $3500. It wasn't even in bad shape. He's never actually been to it- but rented it out on Craigslist. He's had it for 2 years now- has yet to actually receive so much as a dime in rent. (And where it is, is a paradise compared to Flint or Detroit- it's not a ghetto nor high-crime)

I enjoy seeing what bikes people have listed on their profile, it adds to my forum experience and at times makes me ponder various issues about having different bikes for different riding conditions and other good things.

Of course it is not only seeing what bikes people have that results in the above, but it is a small pleasant factor.

I just like to see bikes listed in a person's profile when they have something "different"- like an old Huffy or 40 lb. Schwinn (And they still ride 'em just the same as the guy with the $10K wonderbike)- or the guys who have vintage stuff. Just seeing a few late-model Trekialized Giantdales listed, is as boring as seeing someone list the brand of air filter they use in an automotive forum.

Why don't people list their bike/bikes in their sig or profile?

I find the stories behind the vintage bikes to be quite interesting.

Absolutely. I think that's half the allure. The newer cookie-cutter bikes don't have a story. Someone bought 'em, and rode 'em. The end. They haven't lived through different times; they don't represent the better craftsmanship of a different time; They haven't seen tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of miles. A 1974 Pewjit may not even be as good a bike as a new-fangled Italian made-in-Taiwan Obsessio-compulsio 8.2, but that bike has LIVED!

Any reason you felt the need to point out his misguided and slightly rebellious tendencies while he participates on an internet forum?
If he didn't want to post his bikes that's cool but why the need to reference caring about his or ours?
Quite juvenile in my amateur opinion

Okay, why not?

There. Bikes listed now. Although I barely ride the Raleigh anymore. I still have it though, so I put it up.

Yes... Especially if you have a $20,000 collection of bikes. Please include your list of bikes, address, and work schedule.

So people will be sure to know when you're not home

Takes time and I'd have to go into my profile settings and figure out how to do that. I don't have the fanciest of bikes but am not ashamed of my modest purchase. Not chomping at the bit to brag about it either tho.

5 pages and counting. Whodathunk that asking people to post their bike(s) on a bike forum would elicit
such a response. No not your address, your work schedule, your wifes measurements or the size of your penis. Just your bikes.

WOW a lot of eye opening opinions/reasons and I respect all of what was written/said.I for one never imagined that listing my bikes would actually have an adverse affect of being shunned instead of being embraced for having a deep love/affection for like minded individuals with anything to do with bicycles.Do I have stories?Yes I have stories and a lot of them have to do with a much happier, simpler carefree time.Im not being a bragger/braggart if you judged me by my signature or bike list.I am very very guilty at the age of 53 of trying to regain any sliver of my youth lol and in doing that I've come to appreciate different types of bicycles I've never had the chance to experience before.Thank you for letting me share my thoughts and hopefully some understanding.
