Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Some of you may be interested to hear that I am almost as committed to my tetris playing as I am to bicycles.

And, along those lines, LoP thought we did a very good job going up the hill yesterday- I'm not sure how much I contributed since I stopped feeling it about a half hour after the ride and never did get sore- and said that some people wind up walking their bikes up it. I said "Have you met me? There was no way in hell I was going to walk this bike up the hill." Especially since it's a tandem. I don't need people putting their windows down and yelling "Two of you can't get that thing up the hill?"

So envious of that sunshine, blue sky, and lack of leafy plants. I loved it down there and because of my allergies I haven't felt as good anywhere else. I didn't do any riding while I was in AZ this time but it's definitely on the list for my next visit.

Lately, my NP has been higher than my FTP on Garmin Connect and Training Peaks. Strava has been giving me wackadoodle numbers for some reason.

TP, didn't say it was up to you which number to look at but up to your coach which setting to use, either zero recording or non-zero recording.

I did a church stop on my memorial ride. Oh yes. No Hail Mary, though.

Oh, that. Yes after @FLvector's post I figured out that's what you were getting at. There's no benefit that I could imagine from setting things up that way.

Perfectly possible for NP to be greater than FTP on a ride less than 1 hour. However, because by definition FTP is your maximal sustainable power output for 1 hour, if NP exceeds FTP on a 1+ hr ride, I believe that means your FTP is too low. Which is why it's better to determine FTP by riding a test.
