Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Correct! I got the idea a few years ago and have wanted to do a bike in this scheme ever since. After having BTCs brazed on this frame I finally had the chance to realize it.

I'm guessing you mean downtube shifters, but I plan to put STI levers on this. But I do intend to see how far I can take the theme (before it gets ridiculous). I'm thinking of blue/red brakes front and rear, red/blue hubs, red/blue rims if I can find some that match up with the hubs. After that, I'm not sure...definitely white saddle and bar tape; I'm thrilled with the way the blue and red makes the white "pop". All other bare-metal components like stem and seatpost will be silver. If I get a Thomson stem maybe I'll get a blue cap. Could be all cable housings in front blue, and the rear brake and derailleur housings red? Red/blue tires?

BTW, any suggestions on red and blue brakes? I was looking at some a while back -- but I can't recall the brand -- that were pricey AND I was going to have to buy two sets because they won't sell singles. Anyone out there interested in one blue and one red brake?

^^^, another +1 on the bike Kazoople.

Krazygl00 and Vaio,
This is the only BB I frequent that a bike could be painted to reflect a Doppler red/blue shift and the intent be recognized. Sheldon would be proud of us.

Here is my new ride. Just got done putting it together today and was actually able to take it out for 20 miles. The frame is a 2010 Focus Izalco in the Team Milram colors. Mavic Aksium race wheels. Full 105 group. Very happy with it, except for the white bar tape, that was already on the bars and will be going away soon. Also, maybe a wheel upgrade come spring.

Thats gorgeous! I have an older Cdale 3.0 mtb frame I considered doing that to. What were your steps to get it polished?

I'm going to be riding this old school rig in the Spring this coming year. Just picked up this 1988 Black Lightning. It has been kept in very good condition over the years and the downtubes may take some getting used to.

Very nice. I remember drooling over that bike in the Cannondale catalogs back in the day.

Very nice. What is the gearing on it? Looks like it would take a real man to ride that one.

Thanks, it was a 12-21 freewheel with a 53-39 crank. I have already switched the freewheel to a 14-28 that I had in the parts bin. I would still like to have the 12 tooth high gear, but I need to find one. The max it will take is a 28 and I had to turn the b-screw all the way in to get that to clear. Too many hills around my area to try to be a man.

Sarto Rovigo 56cm

Still getting the fit dialled in (only had it since Wednesday and I have a bike fit session booked for Christmas Day (seriously)) but took it up a Cat 2 this morning and it rode like a total dream. A tiny bit of a shimmy at about 50 km/h but that just keeps you on your feet (and it's a world away from my keirin frame - my ride for about the last 6 months - which makes for some terrifying descents!).

Creepy smile ahoy!

Thanks! I started off by wet sanding with some 2000 grit sandpaper, but I later realized that it probably wasn't necessary because the aluminum wasn't really very scratched. It may have helped remove some finer scratches, but I'm not sure. Next I used some Eagle One Nevr-Dull polish to remove some of the oxidation and clean up the aluminum pretty good. I finished with some Mothers and a soft cloth. It's not perfect, but it is a lot better than before.

Very nice indeed! Must have set you back a pretty penny I imagine. I just got my hybrid this Summer, but already part of me wishes I had a road bike as well.

Nice looking bike but a little bit of shimmying at 30 mph is not acceptable. Get that taken care of as soon as possible!

Thinking back I think it was probably a combination of sidewind (and deep rims) and my nerves more than anything. Hard to hit that kind of speed on a fixed (on my ratio) so I was absolutely bricking it on the descents (in a good way)! We shall see.

New seat post on my Tecnos. (Also used a bit of chrome polish after removing some of the accumulated winter.)

Thia is a great bike.

I would change to 120 mm stem and would push the saddle forward to minimize the impression that the frame is a little short for the rider.

Unfortunately, stem has nothing to do with saddle fore/aft/height. I like your thought process, though.
