Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The unscheduled ones aren't much of a picnic, either. The only time that my wife and I had to put a pet to sleep came out of left field. It was rough.

They're stronger in some regions than in others. Wouldn't call them a has-been, in any event.

I've been on a Johnny Cash bender as of late. All this sad doggy talk made me think of this song for some reason, more self loathing and maybe doesn't really go, other than the title...

I guess what does go... is live like a dog, love, play and crap on the carpet while you still can.

Couldn't tell you - I only know the east and some of flyover country. The impression that I get is that the individual shops tend to do well but there might not be very many of them in a given market/region.

I can't think of any Krispy Kreme locations around here. On the other hand, there is Dunkin' Donuts on nearly every street corner with a few Tim Horton's hear and there to mix things up.

I was weaned on Krispy Kreme. Had to go without after 1980 until they opened the first Portland store somewhere around 2001. I think they had to close a store or two in the Portland Metro since their big push but there is no more perfect donut than the KK Original Glazed so the remaining stores are still doing well.

I recently found a boutique (yeah, I know) donut shop in the area. The other day, some errands brought me within about a mile-and-a-half from their shop and I evidently thought that that qualified for, "well, since I'm in the neighborhood..." Here's their menu/photos. Yes, the long jon w/maple icing and bacon is delicious.

That's the common name as far as I know. That boutique shop I mentioned does one that's similar but with an almond cream filling - it's delicious.

The idea of eating 4 donuts mid run (and I don't run) seems like that poop/running photo from the last addiction thread would be bound to happen.

That is also true. Having dealt with that once, I hope to never have to again. Ever.
