I don't personally spend a lot of mental energy wondering who's doping, but I'd agree that the "jeez that guy doesn't look right" guys are usually 40+. Sometimes there's a whole team of masters guys that don't look right. It is, as they say, what it is.

Redecorating your bathroom and keeping full length mirrors everywhere else isn't cheap.
The answer for many thousands of years has always been choosing the athletic lifestyle at exclusion of most everything else in life. Especially what is taken into one's body and mind. I maintain eradication of the entire culture of drugs is the only way forward that matters. The rest is just a bunch of fickle minded cycling enthusiasts discussing sports and smelling each others farts.

I can understand a lot of the motivation of masters racers to dope.
I've mentioned this before, but I messed up my knee pretty badly about 5 years ago. It took a good year to heal, and then it was a long road back to getting strong on the bike, as well as get over fears of re-injury. There was a moment during that time when I was struggling pretty badly, and I remember thinking, "Man, if there was just something I could take to make me fast again," and after I had that thought, I realized, there is something I could take, and it is called doping.
I'm still not as fast as I was before the injury - or maybe everyone else is faster, who knows.

I have on several occasions seen masters guys after a race throwing HUGE hissy fits at their cars about the outcome of a race. Always makes me wonder how much of that is 'roid rage' and how much is just anger management issues

Chances are they threw the same hissy fits their whole life. Doesn't do anyone any good to even consider making false accusations, ie red scare McCarthyism.

At least 2 of those in B&W legally doped.
Or does doping by definition mean breaking the rules?
In the case of being an older person needing some drug help to heal - might be worth it. Then sit out a year/look at the length of time you need to be off. I've been told by a few that know, that it is generally worth while for females to take HGH/Testosterone, then stop and get in when legal. Many of the benefits will linger.
That is legal also.

Watching "Icarus" on Netflix.
So far it's some masters fred taking EPO to win a grand fondo? I think someone else said this, but how many times is someone gonna do the "I'm gonna dope as a journalist so it's ok" thing?!
It's an interesting subject, and a well done movie, but there's no need for this guy to dope to see how it works or whatever. He just wanted to dope, plain and simple.

This is not a comfortable watch, but I pretty much think he has it right on the fix (no TUEs/exceptions etc.) and, while unpopular, a likely accurate view of those watching sports: "People watch because of the drama, who cares why the guy won." - think NFL.

This time, it's a tennis player taking the stuff that got Sharapova banned. The big takeaway:
So what did I learn? That performance-enhancing drugs are good and people should take them? A little bit, yeah, I did learn that. But everyone I talked to, from my anonymous doctor to the friends in my league who got over laughing at me to actually consider the merits (or demerits) of the experiment, all concluded that this was probably a lot of placebo effect at work.

For the record, meldonium is not illegal (or “scheduled”) in America, nor is it banned specifically by the USTA. But it is a heart drug I don’t need that came with instructions written solely in Latvian.
To do a good test, at least start with the banned list.

USADA hasn't done testing at a race I've done this year outside of Nats, and I've traveled to half a dozen bigger races than I have the last few years.
Even before the rideclean thing they'd be at at least one race I'd do, if not two or three.
More targeted tests now, maybe?

USADA announced that LeoGrande had tested positive for a host of banned substances: raloxifene, ostarine, ibutamoren, GW1516 sulfone, RAD140, LGD4033, and andarine.
Is he like some sort of amateur organic chemist? How do you even find out about crap like that? Wow.

SARMs, apparently really easy to get online. And also they might cause cancer.
Really feels like this should be a lifetime ban though, given the history, and the nature of the substances

I think the simpler question would be what wasn't he on?
And this article says 1 in 20 of us is doping: https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/la...gwTJJaHCJRt.01

I thought that was the British 1:20.
I do think it may be different by country/culture/age groups.
I saw another local race winner (Dana Point GP) was busted.
Anyway here is that news. I am please they are catching more. I'm wondering why/how so many now.
Kayle Leogrande has been found positive for his second doping offense and will now serve an eight year ban. Following his positive at the Dana Point Grand Prix Kayle did not request a hearing to contest his charges.
Kayle did not test positive for 1 substance but in fact 7 illegal substances.
Anti-estrogen drug raloxifene, four Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (ostarine, RAD140, LGD4033 and andarine), ibutamoren (a growth hormone-like factor), and GW1516 sulfone (the 'exercise in a pill' drug).

man, that's enough dope that if I ever fail a test I'm going to claim proximity exposure to him from 2015.

1 out of 20 sounds about right, if you chop out the 4 and 5's and just include Masters and 1 to 3's, its probably even higher.
I used to think that was all bs, but after being in the circle, I've been passively exposed to it. The scarier thing is my local gym (which half our HS football team works out at) has dealers. Probably not for EPO though....
