Those Nyack boys were hammering again today. 58 miles with my pal Don to and from the ride starting at his house. Big Fun. But our former team mate Gerry almost rode head on into two cars. Oh well. At least he'll die riding fast. That one near miss goes into the Nyack Ride Dumb Move Hall of Fame, although it would only make #6 or so on the All Time Dumb Nyack Move list.

The new Brauer clothing (new GL lead sponsor this year) is really very nice.

I got a late start on a solo ride yesterday that would have taken me through one of the most remote areas of the Santa Monica mountains. Once up top with brisk cold winds and fading sunlight, the thought of descending cold, dimly lit, remote canyon roads spooked me, so I cut the ride short. Fail or smart, you decide.

p.s. still too much unnecessary white space with the new software.

This is my first real knee issue after riding 25+ years. Getting old sucks.
Is this an aggravated old injury, or a strictly cycling caused injury?

What is it with everyone's knees hurting?

Mine is still cranky. I'm waiting on the doc to read the MRI results...

Heading east toward the foothills on the fixed gear, in mismatched kit, and electrical tape over the speedometer readout. It's all about the base miles.

It never had a serious injury, but did suffer a few tweaks during the motorcycle days. The pain this time is from using SPD pedals with mtb shoes and not enough adjustment. 2 days on the Looks and it seems better already.

I went to watch a CX race today to see my friend Sarah and I think she wrapped up the championship with 2 races to go. Her first cross season and she has done very well. The 3-4 women were on the course the same time as the p-1-2 men, (I think) and some dude from the same team as umd destroyed everyone. Fun race to watch.

My cranky right knee (arthritic from surgeries in the 1980's now that I'm 50+) was so bad in late July I literally couldn't walk down steps properly. There were days it was hard to get it to bend enough to ride the bike. Had another round of Synvisc shots (google it), last one August 13th (3 injections over two weeks). Knee felt better right away, but not great, in fact in October it was getting a bit cranky again. Then in late Oct/early November the Synvisc seems to have kicked in, now my knee feels friggin great. Hope it lasts as long as the first round of shots (Feb. 2008), that kept me going for nearly 18 months.

Made dinner for a surrogate son who is heading over to Afghanistan. He has already toured the sites of Iraq on a couple of occasions. He is a sniper and hunts men. Had steak, beers and toasted those who were and are our brothers. F*ng shame. Called it an early night. I'm domesticated and he has a couple of old girlfriends to offend.

We are truly wasting our country's best assets in that S$*t hole. Oh well back to my quiet and peaceful life where I worry about weight gain and my FTP...

I am struck by how much more ungainly I look on my feet than on my bike (see flat tire section):

Red kit, white helmet. No, I didn't make the movie. Beware of loud music.

What's really sad is how little support there is for war veterans after they get back home. It really makes me sad that a country like the US won't provide rehab for them to adjust back to life not in a warzone.

What a way to start off the week on a good note:
Got home, got in a massive fight with my wife about some stupid s4it that shouldn't have taken place. Then I had to leave - after a 10 hour trip to get home - to go get our dog who was staying at my mother's (A whole different issue right there). Went to see my brother's new place where everyone was. When I got there my brother was in a pissy mood so I told hime to f-off (in so many words).

I think I need everyone's help here. I'm about to burn a bunch of bridges this morning. Thinking about cutting off people who are anchoring me down (friends and family). Last night I laid awake for a long, long, long time contemplating what I need to do to get through a big situation that is starting to drown me. And I really think I need to start throwing dead weight overboard. There's a ton of people and things that are pulling me under. I don't feel I can better my situation without doing this. But it could get real ugly.

So I didn't sleep well. Then my alarm didn't go off and I woke up too late to get on the bike. But I went to the gym and rode a stationary to warm up (10 miles it read). Then circuit trained like I was a madman. It felt so friggen good. Real good. It cleared my mind. But didn't change it. I still feel exactly the same way.

Subs, try and get through the holidays. This time of year always adds some extra stress and can amplify existing issues. If that doesn't work, there is always the Lap Dance strategy.

Try not to make decisions based on emotion. Wait for peace and clarity before embarking.

Sometimes you just have to write them off. Let them know the door is still open if they want to act right.

Been there. Sometimes this has to be done. It can lead to all kinds of new and better things happening later.

Now I know some of you will just want to be around to see what happens - if anything. Sort of like a soap opera thing.
Last night I ignored my brother's phone call when I got home. Like the big, fat baby I am. I just need to clear my head before talking to him.
When my mother calls - if she does - I will start with her.

I'll just say this: Most of these situations are me being used and when it comes time to repay favors I get drug through the coals.
First it was a couple of friends who are using me to get what they want and aren't willing to pay for services. Services are going to stop.
Then it was my sister, brother, and mother who tackled me to do things for them that took weeks to complete. Every free moment at work and home. I did it willingly with a smile. Told them I would and didn't complain. Now when I needed a favor it was like asking them if they would pull out their teeth for me. And now I'll be the A-hole. My wife's family is usually called when we need a hand because my family isn't willing. Or puts up a fight when being called for.

(Man, my blood is boiling now thinking about it.) But, I'm going to chill out before doing anything harsh.

The cut of your jib: I like it.

Sub: I've found that I need to give big decisions the right amount of time to gel. Everyone is stressed during the holidays, and it's a common depression season. When looking at the graph of recent events, tap the "smoothing" button a couple times and see if it all still looks as tough with 10s-20s smoothing on. Maybe it will, but don't be distracted by spikes.

Yeah I hear you. Even if you overreact a bit, those errors can be recovered. I guess if you compare your plan to what your bro said to you, you're not in a different order of magnitude.

Maybe you should just do a google image search for "Hendricks" to make you feel better.
