Nice use of N.B. - had an argument with my boss one day about using that, he considers himself soooooo smart and that he had never heard of it must mean I was wrong.

"N.B." is not often used I suspect, but, it can be key.

Tabatas. My first time ever. They're awful. I sure hope they're effective, because they suck. The mental cost is considerable. Ended up averaging somewhere in the 400W range overall for the on sections. 2 sets of 8, 4 minutes each. First part of each set had a big jump of 700W or whatever, but the beginning of each other interval was right around the average. Shortest 10 seconds ever.

Went for a ride today.... Every big bump was shooting a very sharp and intense pain from my seatbone. I hit it few days back, thought it was fine but motorcycle ride yesterday really twicked it the wrong way. I couldn't even do high intensity intervals seated. I hope it gets better by Sunday.

3 hours in the heat. 98 with a heat index of 101. I feel like death. After about 2 hours I wanted to just lay down. So hot. Still feeling a little sick and it's been an hour.

Feeling better now. The Gatorade was actually part of the problem. I ended up getting a big bottle at the store I stopped at, but no water, because there wasn't any cold. So I had just Gatorade. Too much sugar. I was desiring some cold water in a bad way.

Felt the same last weekend - just drink a lot, sit in the AC, and take a nap. Should feel better tomorrow though!
Yesterday 3 hours with 2x35 min z3. Great route except for about 2 miles which I stupidly didn't look at with the satellite view before hand. Turned to dirt and this road sucked. It was either ride on rocks and risk having a puncture with no one to call or ride in 2-3 in deep sand. I chose the sand and made it through after about 5 or 6 halts and unclips. I am kinda starting to see this "roubaix" race thrill though.
Today 1 hour ez real early and spend the rest of the day with my family who came to visit.
**** that

People still drink Gatorade?? (and by people I mean bike racers)
Training status: I don't really train per se these days, I just ride and race.
Did a 5 hour hike yesterday in the Cascades with gain of 2500' or so, TSS was > 0.

Team came to town today to do some hill repeats...Damn can these guys climb...I try
Must say descending the hill numerous times a week helps in picking lines. All the guys were commenting on their inability to not scrub off speed on the final corner. Wife and I just lean into it and go with the flow

3 hours last evening. had some either tempo or SST (depending on what the legs could turn) on the plate although after multiple attempts just could't last more than 10 minutes as I kept feeling like I was overheating. Ended up running out of water, finally found a gas station but that is the worst i have ever felt from heat. Really wish it would cool down a bit.

Why not? It works, it's cheap in powdered form. It's probably the most studied drink on the planet. Should I be using some overpriced cycling specific thing?

Well as a self proclaimed 'heat rider' (nickname used to be the Spaniard because I can really take the heat) and in doing some research over the last little bit let me offer some help as we ride out this heat.
I always start with two frozen bottles, sometimes one water one gatorade but usually both water. I also put two ziplock bags of ice in my side pockets of my jersey. Of course as you get going everything starts to melt. Once I am soaked with sweat I often poke a little hole in the ziplocks bags and let the water run down me a little. If you can't carry two bags of ice put one in your middle pocket on your spine.
When it is hot like this I target two bottles an hour therefore my routes are planned around store stops and I fill up both bottles.
I have also increased my sodium intake and put salt on almost everything.
My daily water consumption is in excess of 1.5 gallons a day. You cannot hydrate yourself the day of your training, it has to be done beforehand.
A lot of the success you are looking for in the heat comes from proper planning. When we went for a long ride last week in the heat, one of the guys was complaining that we made two store stops in the first two hours, I call them a splash and dash, he was one of the guys that the heat hit hard later on in the ride while I was feeling fine

however when I am riding really long or it's really hot I do appreciate some salt and sugar in my bottle. cheaper the better.
