Found out this AM from kensuf that the race weekend I was pointing toward next month has been postponed until much later. So I took the day off from training and have been cooking instead. See the "Eating Status" thread for details. It will be so good.

Got my first sunburn of the year. What is it about me that I can be just 5 minutes from home and realize I didn't put on sunscreen, but will still keep riding rather than turn around and go back?

Anyway, did a solid 3 hour endurance ride with threshold and tempo intervals in the first two hours.

Ride today was rough. 50 minutes only, because I had to turn around early to give my girlfriend her key back since her mom wasn't bringing one before their trip, long story short, she didn't need the key back.

I didn't mind, because my legs were like rocks, heavy rocks.

Unknown. I did not meet anyone, nor did any one rider dictate the pace.

Now on to the real priorities. Chowder, lobster, and beer.

Friday: 2 x 20s at 95% (~330watts), 1 x 20 @ 85% (~300watts)
Today: 100 mile ass kicker in the rain (the whole time). I was drilling on the front like a madman, taking 5min + pulls, all out. I just felt really good.

A bunch of my team mates and I are riding to the beach tomorrow. Leaving at 8 am and riding about 90 miles. Meeting the family out there and being driven home.

Weather forecast says a slight tailwind all the way. The last time I did this was last Christmas Eve and I did it solo into a 10+ mph headwind. This should be nicer.

Baking a potato tonight to take with me.

2 hrs, 32 miles exploring seattle this morning.

Heat-related (I think) tire blowout at the beginning. Lost 450' in ~6 blocks (Not really ever planning on riding up that), Was probably harder on the front break, and when I stopped at the light at the bottom of the hill for ~10 seconds...........boom. Tube shredded and tire blown off the rim. ksyriums (no rim tape - so it wasn't that issue), so I think I just overheated the front and it exploded. It had been patched a few times, so that might have factored in. I've routinely done the 10mi descent of diablo, and never thought about overheating rims but the 4-6% grade doesn't require constant breaking.

Went out with the idea to do a set of ZCI's. Thought I'd shoot for 300w.

1) 301
2) 301
3) 306
4) 309
At this point I notice it's going pretty well so I decide to target 320.
5) 323
6) 327
Six is usually it, but I'm still feeling strong, so I decide to really drill it
7) 338
8) 339 (!)

What the hell? Tuesday I got dropped on the River Ride, and I've hardly ridden since. And pulled out PB's today. Insane.

"Winning" a local charity century has got to be the epitome of fredliness. You can bow down to me now for pulling off the "three-peat". 304tss in 4:20, with 3k worth of climbing, my legs were pretty ouched.

pro-tip, don't get a deep tissue massage the day before a hard ride. that was just dumb on my part.

Local race was cancelled due to rain, and, I elected to not travel to Mystic Velo crit because I wouldn't want to do that course in the rain (it has lots of turns and I am not in the mood to crash).
So, I did 1:45 of tempo in a big gear (53-15 or 16 -- didn't check) the whole way -- it was tricky on some of the 8-10 degree climbs; my legs got a good work out.

I "won" the beach ride today. (LOLZ!) BF is 2-fer in Gainesville for fred moves.

Our route from Hogtown to Anastasia Island State Park was out 39th Ave, SR 26 to Putnam Hall, SR 100 to East Palatka, SR 207 to SR 312, SR 312 to A1A, A1A to the park. There was construction at the SR 207/312 intersection so all my team mates filtered up to the front whilst I cut through the St. Augustine Record Newspaper parking lot. They found that they couldn't turn onto 312 so they had to head through the "old" town and across the Bridge of Lions while I spun easily to the finish at least 5 minutes ahead of them. Eric, Ben, Dave L, Disappearing Dave (Dido), Christian, and myself completed the ride.

Tailwinds and some big motors on the front led to a very quick ride. Andrea pulled us most of the time to US 301 and then he headed home. Eric S and Ben P rode some hard tempo that we followed. One stop in Palaka for water et al (10 minutes or so) and another stop just after the SR 206/Crescent Beach turn off to fix Dido's chain (another 10 minutes), so 80 miles in 3 hours 45 minutes clock time, 3 hours 25 minutes saddle time. And that includes riding slow as merde for a LONG time so that the guys taking a nature break could catch up.

Fun ride.

2 hours 10 minutes on the team's Sunday morning ride. Unseasonably cold and rainy. I held on to the pack until the final climb where I was dropped and stayed back about 90 seconds for the last 5 miles. Just nothing left in the tank to catch the group.

Saturday - I only had 2 hours so I made them count. 90% FTP (though I might need to raise it a bit) for 1:54 on my "2 hour route". IF of .936. I filled in the last 6 minutes spinning my legs out. Personal best time on that route by 3 minutes. Feeling pretty good! I think I have found my training groove this year. I think the difference has been more rest and slower ramp rate for the CTL. I think the two weeks on one off is better for my old bod than the 3 on 1 off I had done in previous years. The progress is slower but more consistent (less time off for being sick etc.). I think this will pay off. Especially on the second peak toward the end of the summer and next year.

Sunday - off (planned)

Today - off (not planned - it's cold and wet outside and I just don't want to do it). I'll shuffle my easiest recover spin to today to compensate. Gives me a chance to catch up on some work and stuff anyway. All good.

So, I had a bit of a strange weekend riding.

On Saturday, I went out for the 9 am Pre-Ride - this is about a 25 mph ride that holds a steady pace of about 20 mph ave. We will slow up hills some, but the idea is to get the legs warmed up. Then we met up for the regular Saturday morning hammer ride, known around here as the P-Ride. It's basically a race-like effort for 55 miles. I however, got tired about halfway in, so I turned for home. All in all, I got in about 60 miles in about 2:40 min.

Then on Sunday, I went out for a steady, recovery ride type effort. The route took us out several roads that seemed to just go up for a while. About an hour in, two of our five riders pulled off. Then about halfway through the ride, we switched from our casual pace to a single pace line. I was the weakest of the riders so I took shorter pulls and skipped an occasional pull, as my teammates are always yelling at me to sit out pulls early so I don't end up dying and falling off. Anyway, we held a pretty good pace all the way back in to town, and again did just under 60 miles in about 2.5 hours.

But here is where it gets weird. My average power on Saturday was about 10 watts lower than my average power on Sunday. That means I actually worked harder on my recovery day. I'm guessing a large part of that is due to our group size. On Saturday, I always had plenty of people to hide behind - there were about a dozen of us on the first part of the ride and probably 60 on the second, where as the Sunday ride was just the three of us for the most part.

Did a couple laps of the local season-kick-off charity ride this weekend. 4:00 ride time, 320TSS w/ about 5k of climbing. Skipped it back in February due to snow/ice, but I wanted to at least get a comparison to last year. Last year this was my first ever "long" bike ride or event of any sort so it's a good benchmark. First lap was a breeze - hills that nearly gave me a stroke last year were just painful. Second lap felt like last year, just faster. Need to work on bike fit a bit; last 10 miles my upper back/neck were on fire.

Day off. I was due, and I felt a little tweak on the back side of one of my legs which needed some attention off the bike.
