I'd say it gives the lie to his press release claim that cycling is just his "hobby," in hilariously ironic fashion.

^^ tl:dr synopsis

he planted drugs into a hammer container but didn't account for what he planted would contain other things he didn't test positive for.

yep. **** I'd pay an extra $10/year on my license to have more people tested.

i wish there were more testing, too, but i think $10/year/licensee grossly underestimates the cost to administer these programs at any meaningful level. from what i've read, the cost of doing just one test is surprisingly high.
as the system is set up right now, one has to also fail an IQ test to be caught, and that is sad.

anyone know how many USAC active members there are (those who renew or get a new license)?

I'm also not certain that failing and IQ test and doping in amateur racing wouldn't correlate pretty high, anyway. Though I guess what got Meeker was the element of surprise.

on a side note, my wife has interacted with that lawyer. turns out he defends all the dopers. this guy -- meeker, that is -- didn't mess around. he -- the lawyer -- has trotted out the exact same excuse for several clients...including tainted supplements from 2008!
i think he was the attorney for both moninger and neben.

i think it was around the time of that NY gran fondo incident when i heard it was something like $1,000 per test. it's not as simple as getting one of those drug tests at a local pharmacy--there's so much more to the handling of these samples.
i'd be happy to pay more for my license AND more per race, but i suspect that many people may not feel the same.
i'm also a big fan of personal shaming and self-policing in the racer community.
c'mon....nobody knew? not a coach, not a teammate, not any competitors? circumstantial evidence is just that--but you'd have to imagine that dozens and dozens of this guy's competition suspected something -- and yet no one said anything?
(i realize meeker didn't have a coach, but many amateur do and it should be pretty apparent for one's coach to see what is up.)

the thing is meeker DIDN'T fall victim to the element of surprise. he showed up at the ONE place all year that testing the winner is likely, and he won 2 out of 3 events. everyone who showed up to nationals in 2012 should have known this.
my comment was related to a story i heard on the ineffectiveness of WADA at the pro level. i'm paraphrasing dick pound here, but his comment was essentially when you fail a drug test you have failed two tests: a drug test AND an IQ test.
at the amateur level one has to be even more stupid because the testing is so much less frequent. all this guy had to do is stop for 30, 60 days (not sure what it takes), but i guess he just couldn't help himself. life must be hard being that controlled by one's ego.
if i lived in one of these doper-heavy locales i might occasionally rent an RV, slap some sort of 'USADA drug testing' sign on it, and park it near registration at a few of these crits. might be funny to see the reactions.
oh yeah--here's that interview: https://fasterskier.com/article/confe...gainst-doping/

A NJ promoter fake announced testing at his race. Several racers got lost, stuck in traffic and others dropped out. I wasn't there, but it was all the rage on FB at the time.

Nationals already costs a fortune, so what's another few bucks. Nobody tainted should wear the jersey. Test every jersey winner, then test randomly throughout the NRC/NCC season with no forewarning, i.e. "Ride Clean".
