Went for 25mins @ 100W last night. I could pedal no problem but as soon as I got on the bike and started, I could feel discomfort in the right knee again. I think this is going to take some time to heal...

I'm going to sit out of San Dimas and just lose the money(no refunds ). I have a gut feeling I'm going to wreck my knee if I do 3 days of racing

Sorry to hear that. I thought I might have something wrong with mine, as it felt loose and sometimes painful after our ski trip. Three days off, light ride, and now it's back to 95% and improving steadily. Good luck with yours.

Thanks, it's healing really fast and has almost no effect on cycling at all. Today was the first PT session, the therapist said normally they would put me on the stationary bike for 15 minutes but seeing as how I already rode today we just did stretches and ultrasound. The stretches were painful but it feels noticeably better now than it did before the session.

For those that do ZCIs (waterrockets mainly, I think? not sure if ive seen others post about doing them), how often are you doing them? Do you do them in place of 2x20s or mix it up? Ive done them twice now, and was able to pretty much hit the numbers. Yesterday was a little tough and just under what I was aiming for, but anything after a sugar low is.

They seem to be a little "easier" mentally then 2x20s, but they don't really give you the chance to zone out like a 20 minute interval.

Still new to training with power and looking for any advice/tips I can get..

I've had a fever for the past two days. Topped out at 100.5. Didn't eat for almost two days. I'm just starting to feel normal now. Mrs Ferret is in Florida on business so the dogs have had to take care of me. This entailed licking me in the face when I fell asleep and random barking.

Sometimes I'll do a block of two sets/week. Most of the time I get two threshold workouts unless I'm in base. It is best to toss it up a bit between push and pull threshold workouts. ZCI™s are clearly a pull workout. I've been told by someone much smarter in this than myself, that spending an entire block doing just pull workouts is fine, but don't do two blocks in a row of them.

The push workouts (like 2x20s) should be legitimate push workouts, and it is okay if they don't push you to failure. They are still training the correct zone. Recovery from them is just as important as the much more intense ZCI™ workouts, even though you don't feel as fatigued at the end of them.

Note that sometimes a 2x20 workout can be a pull workout too, since we can go over FTP for that duration repeatably. So, that interval duration can go either way and still be effective. If you prefer harder 2x20s like this, then maybe do a 2x40 or 1x40 or just do a solo SST ride.

Thanks for the reply.

Im still trying to figure out which types of intervals I prefer. To be honest, ive only done a few 20 minute intervals this year (and less last year..) and the ZCIs twice. I can see both having their advantages but wanted to ask here since I know some (most) of you guys have been doing this much longer than me.

I did some ZCI in my Build 1 Phase accompanied with 2x20. Basically 2x20 on Tues, ZCI on Thur (the rest of the week was filled as well), for 3 weeks. I felt 2x20 was more mentally tough but both hurt (but felt good). Build 2 I am now doing some Waterrocket Intervals and Tabata Intervals.

Glad to hear your MCL is healing quickly. I strained/tore my MCL about 4 years ago skiing (twisting the foot outward in a fall did it). It was a fairly minor injury, and the orthopedist recommended cycling as therapy. It felt fine while riding, but swelled up afterwards for about 4 weeks, so I only rode lightly for that time. For about 12 weeks after that it was sore on occasion after riding, but came back to 100%.

Alviso practice crit today. So much for intensity... tailgunned most of the "race".
Started moving up, and there was a small gap.. I didn't realize no one could get across and I waited too long. Crossed the gap on the final stretch and was closing it even while the lead group sprinted. Rolled in 8th. Well, at least I learned something... a gap in the last lap must be crossed without hesitation.

And learned how ridiculously easy it is to ride at the back, and not just due to wind shelter. I can keep a smallish gap and have a much better view of everything in front, no fighting for wheels, no being stuck on the wrong side, I can take whatever line I feel like. Now I know how people can do crits at 200 watts.

Based on what I did during base this year, that'd be ~500 miles last week. Dang...rest and beer!

ZCI™s today, with three friends. Really good fun going out and punishing each other today. Numbers:RPE ratio was promising.
