Nope, i saved $20 when including the $12 shipping, not counting shipping i would have saved $32.
Of course, then the there's the price of misplaced rage.....

I think that the extra money they charge is just going into their coffers. This is the second thing that I have ordered from Performance using overnight air and the second time they got the shaft. Following is the letter that I sent them. We'll see what they say. Anyway it's too late to get the part in time.

Hay, What's the story. I ordered a BB tool and paid for overnight because I needed it for Sunday's ride. I know that FEDEX delivers on Saturday to Ocean City because I called and asked them before I placed the order. Now the FedEx tracking page says it won't be here till the 27th. What gives. It states right on your page that:

"Overnight Delivery Via FEDEX. Orders received by 4:00 pm EST are shipped the same day (in stock items only). Saturday deliveries incur an additional $10 surcharge."

Now it seems to me that if I ordered on a Friday before 4, which I did, they the next day would be Saturday, which it is, and that is the day that would be overnight. So what happened. Now I'm sitting at home waiting for my part. Seems to me that A: you should let the people in shipping know what your policy is and B: you should put copies of the calendar down there so that they can tell when the next day is.

It's more an office/local screw up though, and not a general Fedex one.
This is the reason I don't like FedEx for deliveries to my home--I always have to drive to their airport facility to pick up my stuff. FedEx is built around delivering to businesses, not homes. By contrast, UPS leaves stuff at my home.

As to the whole Saturday delivery thing, I agree that you got you paid for, so stop complaining. You learned that "two-day" shipping really means "two business days, and not a minute sooner." In one of my orders, I ordered on a Friday. FedEx had it in town on Saturday, but held it for delivery until Tuesday. Oh well, I got what I paid for, so no complaining. But UPS gets bonus points for delivering something the next day even though I paid for 2-day shipping. And, as I've already said, UPS delivers to my home.

Did you pay for the extra charge for Saturday delivery and specify that you wanted/needed Saturday delivery? If the answer is no on both counts, then you are another person who is misplacing the blame. Performance cannot read your mind.

Once again..if it is important enough that you must have an item that quickly, get it locally. I'm sure there are bike shops near you both. GEEZ.....

While riding is important, to most people not pointlessly burning money is usually important too.

What the hell is that, i paid the extra money, and in no way is that 2 day air! Even understanding Sunday doesn't count, its still not 2 days.
So no i get to either not ride this weekend, its gonna be a freaking sweet weather weekend, or attempt to ride with my **** up deraileur.
Thanks Fedex, you truly suck.
My LBS had it but it was close to $20 more, $55 compaired to over $70. I probably could have talked the price down...which im really regretting not doing. Needless to say i'm not a happy camper.
I work for FedEx (Ground) and im sorry bro but have you mentioned what time of day you got the order in ? And have you ever considered that Cambria might have been the problem? Don't flame some company when you or the shipper is at fault. FedEx rocks and alot of people know it.... We take market share every year away from UPS.... and dont even get me started on the hack and pack cheapo shipping DHL does.

I'm sorry, but you can go with UPS's slow union asses... and you'll get it after they're done with their business customers and THEN they'll come to you. Or you can go with someone else

and by the way... to the gentleman who said "Man.........EVERYONE knows UPS and FedEX DO NOT deliver on weekends"

FedEx Home Delivery does deliver on Saturdays... you can even schedule your drop off.

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

Before I moved to Australia, I ordered some very expensive voltage convertors for running my photo gear, and arranged to have them delivered to my office. The FedEx guy took it upon himself to deliver to a completely different address, because a company there had a similar name. The order was replaced at no charge, and if I am to believe the FedEx dispatcher, the driver had to pay for the items, as he did not deliver to the correct address. At least they made up for their poor service.

As far as Cambria bike, from Cambria to Illinois in 2 days is not a reasonable expectation if you placed the order Wednesday. They would have handed it off to FedEx on Thursday, and given them 2 days to deliver it. Unless they specifically stated Saturday delivery, you should be expecting it on Monday. Are you angry at them, or at yourself for not reading all the fine print and doing all the math? A phone to call Cambria would have taken care of this up front.

Correction: FedEx does deliver on weekends, if the shipper specifies weekend delivery. Standard delivery is measured in business days.

I just went back and looked at the pages in my history. The choice is Overnight Delivery. Nothing about Saturday. One has to assume that they are able to read a calendar and know that if today is Friday then overnight would be Saturday. Friday day--Friday night--Saturday day, get it. If they need to ask about a Saturday delivery then it should be part of the form.

Sure there are bike shops close to me. I visited two before I ordered from Performance just like I always do, usually with the same result-"We don't stock that". I could not even get Shimano brake shoes from my LBS. And this is a big one, 5 mechanics bays, not some mom and pop store. It probably cost me more in fuel for my F250 than in postage from Performance, but I keep trying to get things locally.

Bikes: '79 Univega Sport Tour (not stock). Mid 80's Benotto, bring back to life. Mid 80's Univega Alpina Ultima (needs TLC, still built strong). Trek 400. Specialized Globe. DS Expert Ironman. Schwinn World Sport (soon to be a SS).

UPS generally sucks. Unionized pretty much sums it up.

For those of you geographically un-informed, Cambria is about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. I can't tell you if their warehouse is located there OR in another area. Lets assume its located in Cambria. Its 4-1/2 hours driving time to downtown Los Angeles. What do you think their PM cut off time is for FEDEX orders? I don't know, but I can guess. Placing an order from the mid-west (2 hours ahead of PST) means you have to place the order well in advance of the 1pm cut-off time. That is most likely why it was shipped on Thursday and not Wednesday. Sounds to me like FEDEX delivered the package on schedule based on when they received it.

The fault lies with Cambria and Cambrias customer service, unless the order was placed via the internet. If the order was placed over the internet, the fault lies with the customer; you just didn't ask enough questions. Perhaps if you had placed the order with an internet retailer in a similiar time zone OR via the phone, you might have received the product when you wanted it. I know its a bummer when expectations are not met, but in this case, I think the customer should have asked more questions when the order was placed.

S*** happens, the world won't come to an end with this one.

Cambria's also got a store in San Luis Obispo. I can't imagine they would be able to maintain the prices they do if they have a warehouse in Cambria though. I suggest everyone make a trip there to check out their shop. Stop at Mustache Pete's for lunch, and stay on Moonstone Drive. Get a beach-facing room with a jacuzzi tub and you're set. Can't go wrong there.
