Looking for alternatives to SRAM SRT-400 grip shifters (circa 1995)
(correction, title should say SRAM SRT-400, not Shimano)
I found a 1995 Trek hybrid bike that is equipped with grip shifters. I'm trying to figure out what it would take to convert those to trigger shifters. Here is how the bike is currently equipped:
Crankset
Shimano STX IG 42/32/22
Front Derailleur
Shimano STX
Rear derailleur
Shimano STX IG
Shift Levers
GripShift SRT-400
Shimano IG50
11-28, 7spd
Does anyone know if Shimano STX 7-speed rapid fire shifters (model SL-MC40) would work with this drivetrain? Any other suggestions for compatible shifters?

Those would work fine. As you have Shimano FD & RD, any Shimano indexed shifters with the correct number of speeds will work fine.

I have replaced several grip shifts with Rapid Fire on Treks. As matter of fact I always replace the grip shifts if I get a bike with them. They are junk. [IMP]

I am replacing a set of Sram MRX shifters with Shimano SL-M310 7-speed shifters. Amazon has them for less than $30 shipped. I used grip shift in the mid 90's, but switched back to rapidfire shifters.
