Question about stem/fork fitting
First of all, I'm sorry if this is a repost, I searched the forum but couldn't find anything.
Now, my question.
I bought a Cinelli Alter stem, but when I got it home I figured out something was wrong. The stem doesn't fit my steerer. The stem is 1" and my fork steerer is 1 1/4 (or 1 1/8). Is there any chance of me fitting the stem without replacing the fork?
I searched for adapters, but couldn't find one that would solve my problem.
Thanks

Shims are available. I'd rather get the stem that fits, personally.

I think you didn't understand
The steerer tube is too wide, so the stem doesn't fit through it.
I don't need a shim. If that would have been the case, it'd be done by now. I need some sort of reducer or something.

Ahh, yes, sorry about that. I always catch myself thinking half quill half threadless.
I don't know of any of those. All the steerer extenders I've seen appear to be for the same size top and bottom.
A steerer extender type of setup would make for a rather ugly cockpit, though. Would probably be pretty expensive to have one handmade.

Thats my problem too: the ugly factor
I know people who can do it rather cheap, but I guess I'll save em for another build
What do you think would happen if I enlarge the hole? I mean, would it crack? (I have 2 cinelli alter stems lol)
I heard the alter was re-released sometime ago with a 1 1/8 option. Never seen one anywhere online. Maybe someone else has and could link me
Edit: nevermind, this isn't going to happen anytime soon. Boring it out wil most likely ruin it and kill me in the process. A reducer is hard to find and ugly.
I'll just save em for another bke or maybe buy a new fork sometime this year.

You can't realistically use a different fork to get the smaller steerer. Your frame is made for a 1-1/8" headset and fork and, while reducing headsets are available, the change would be dreadfully expensive and far exceed the cost of a proper size stem.
Do NOT drill out your 1" stem until you've updated both your medical insurance and your will.
