Paint Color for 2004 RockHopper
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knew the name of the paint color used on the 2004 blue rockhopper and/or where I could get it.
Specialized Bicycle Components (the blue one)
I have a 2004 blue Rockhopper that I'm converting to single speed to use for commuting, but the frame has several dings on it, and there is a spot (an inch behind the BB on the top of a chain stay) where there the paint has chipped/peeled off in a spot about the size of a penny. I know there are already several threads dealing with the best way to go about fixing a ding, so i'm more just looking for the type/name of the paint to use.

Not sure if any bike store will be able to help you. I would go to the auto body shop / painting department. They can use their computerized eye to match that color and mix some for you.
Use as much you need, pack the rest in little bottles and sell it to other owners like you ;-)
My friend did that with paint for one of the iconic cars, and now its a pretty good business and only one of its kind in US lol

Contact Specialized and hope that they know the color number and maker and it's a standard automotive color. Otherwise you will have to: a) have the color custom blended, b) settle for a close-but-no-cigar approximation or c) repaint the entire frame.

They told me that the color scheme was ordered just for that bike, and that they don't have/make exact matching replacement forks for any of their bikes.?!?!?!? So, if your original fork was white with blue accents - you can only get white, or white with whatever color scheme fork manufacturer is making at that time.
That sounds crappy coming from 3rd? biggest bicycle manufacturer/brand in the world.
I asked what if they have to replace it under warranty, what would I get - the answer was still the same - the white fork and no matching color scheme. That is a bummer since many of us buy bikes because they love technical aspects of it as much as looks...
Then few months later I got same problem with other bike, this time Raleigh brand. They upgraded my original and faulty Spinner fork to the much "better" version, but slightly different color. Well...ok...I was happy till I went for some MTB-ing. First few inch "drop" and it bottomed out and started making crazy clunking sounds.
...Ok...I went back to my LBS, showed them the problem and insisted on another replacement. Raleigh company was a pleasure to deal with. They sent me a third fork - this time RockShox which is working awesome /year long/ to this day.
So...I will be really surprised if Specialized can help with paint for touch-ups. They may get some small amounts of each used color, and possibly keep it in their main warehouse where all the bikes are coming to US from Asian factories to touch up whatever needs attention before they send it to US bike stores.
Anyway...2 options - Call Specialized directly, and if that won't work - auto body paint shop will be your another (probably not a cheap) option.
