Tire size standards?

Looking for 700 38c tires. This ebay listing is for Michelin Protek 700 x38 tires but in the listing it states

ISO Width 35
Labeled Size 35

Michelin Protek 700x38 Black | eBay

Why does it say labeled size 35 if they're supposed to be 38c tires? Wondering if the listing is mislabeled or there's something about tire sizing I'm not clear on.

Thanks for all input.

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.

Wouldn't blip my radar.

I suspect that Michelin is selling them as 35mm tires. In the real world, bicycle tires will seldom measure exactly the label width when mounted on a rim and inflated. In fact, the particular rim that you are using will affect the measured width of the tire. If it was my bike I'd pop them on and ride. You'll never notice a 3mm difference.

The wheel is 700c in diameter, 38 C is the width of the tire in mm's. I'm not sure but I think "ISO Width 35" is a particular standard of ISO that measures the width in a different way.

ETRTO set the agreed upon standards for the Bead Seat Diameter so Tire and Rims Fit each other .. 622 is that Number for 700c ..

second number is the tire - Width.. ala 622 - 32.. [35, 37, etc]

Why are you getting worked up over an ebay listing that is most likely a typo?

Michelin offers that tire in a variety of widths, including 35, 38 and 40mm. The ebay listing is mixing two tires, and either the title or the details are wrong.

FWIW the so-called ISO width is simply matter of nomenclature, ie. a 700x 38c tire would be the same as an ISO (ERTRO) 38-622. So the nominal ISO width which is molded into the tire will match the width that might appear on a label. However, there will be variance between nominal width and actual width for a variety of reasons, one being the rim' actual width.

The tire is described as having a 1mm layer of extra puncture protection in the tread, which already looks thick. Perhaps the tire is truly 35mm wide, but the height is more like that of a 38mm, and they want to label it as the latter to make sure there will be enough clearance for the tire.

You aren't likely to notice an actual difference in riding between a 35mm and 38mm tire, so I would just buy something that fits and not let it bother you.

....Wondering if the listing is mislabeled.
.
Yes, The OP nailed it before posting. The tire is labeled as 35mm and with an ISO size of 35mm, so the only inconsistency is the listing headline.

But it's fun to read the fanciful theories.

Sent them a message just before I posted this question, still waiting to hear back.

Asking a question =/= being "worked up". Looking to expand my awareness and also avoid putting down money before I understand what I'm buying. Still relatively new to paying attention to details about bikes.

Seller says it was a typo. They've since corrected it.
