I heard you can like bake or boil your chain or something. I read it in a magazine once. Funny though, i can't say i've seen it on bikeguide yet...maybe i'll put a thread up aha.

Baking your chain wouldn't really do anything. Boiling would because it's getting rid of all of the crap on your chain. It wouldn't be very nice to touch though... you could actually melt it.

Not if you did it with some unknown liquid at extreme temperatures. Or just some acid. It is possible.

Acid is a chemical, and will eat the chain, not consume it through heat.

I think the melting point (of steel) is around 2500 degrees F (1370 C)...i know MY oven/stove doesn't get that hot!
