Probably because I don't like being anally probed by my seattube.

Tightening the clamp fixes that...so does learning how to land. Someone riding since '94 would/should know that though...

Maybe so he has something to sit on while waiting to drop into a bowl?

And believe it or not it can help with manuals.

Wow, you really got me there. You know, because the reason between running and not running a seat has oh-so-much to do with whether or not my seatpost clamp is properly tightened. And I really liked your attempted dig at my riding ability with that "learning to land" comment.

Why don't you go do some more sit-down wheelies and try to impress your wife and kids by jumping off curbs?

I got bored with wheelies a decade before you started riding.

A person who can land properly can run a seat higher than the frame. If my seat was that low, I'd have my knees about a foot over my head.

You never answered...why do you even have a seat?

CMcMahon 04-10-06 08:11 PM

Yes, because I spend a ton of time sitting on the seat while pedaling, and it's damn near impossible to land anything without having your seat rubbing against your thighs.

edit: Seatgrabs and toboggans? Sitting on the deck waiting to drop in?

MadMan2k 04-10-06 11:27 PM

The expense of a seat and post are a small price to pay for the bike looking far less ********... eg http://jonbuder.com/images/ghettobike.jpg

eightdip 04-11-06 02:39 AM

oh good GOD that bike is ******** (the link, not yours beerman, sweet bike!)

That bike would look ******** even with a seat. It's like a time machine that can only bring you back to 1997.

eightdip 04-11-06 10:46 AM

its worse than my first bike. a magna if anyones ever heard of them? it had an aluminium frame with really dodgey weld spots and the dropouts were welded on in only 2 small places. stil, not as bad as that ******** bike, its not the seat id be bothered about.

MadMan2k 04-11-06 10:52 AM

It's better than a magna. It's a cromoly Specialized frame, which I'd trust over any walmart frame, plus it has 14mm axles.

Not mine btw, and my friend got it for free, partially torn apart. Needs a new headset and possibly new cranks, already replaced the rusted out chain in the photo. Shouldn't be too bad for a low budget bike for him.

CMcMahon 04-11-06 10:58 AM

Comparing an actual BMX bike to a Magna is like comparing David Bowie to Milli Vanilli.

eightdip 04-11-06 11:02 AM

lol

I don't guess I see what rubbing hurts, or at least not enough to want to hit my chin with my knees regularly.

I raised the seatpost as I grew in height, rather than lower it.

CMcMahon 04-11-06 09:24 PM

My knees don't hit my chin because I'm standing on the pedals when I'm riding. I don't understand why you keep bringing that up.

Brian 04-11-06 09:44 PM

I won't even try to defend Prozakk on this one. You need a seat for so many things. Heck, no one sits down when racing, but you still need a seat for that. Who wants to pinch a tube with their knees/thighs?

Try flipping the bolt that clamps your cable to the left brake arm over to where the cable is on top of the arm. It might keep it from rubbing & get you better/more even torque.

See the nearest cable in the pic? Flip it to where the wire is on top of the brake arm & the acorn (shaped) nut is facing down.
