Roadmaster Cape Cod

Quite surprised to find not one image of a Cape Cod men's bike. This one is nifty for fact that it has a three speed hub, cottered crank, and everything works. The tires even aired up, so I was able to shift the Shimano S3 up and down a few times. Frame is built with neat looking lugs, although the front fork ends are flattened out. Original paint and decals are all there, metallic purple in color. For ten dollars, I thought it an alright deal. Never know when I might get someone else into riding, even found it kind of comfortable myself.

It's obviously cheap. Is it worth putting new rubber on?

Should I disassemble the S3 to clean and repack, prepare for future replacement, or ride it on the crusty gum walls until it quits?

Yeah it sounds like a cool ride, I'd say go for the tires. Could always get some used ones on CL too. Post a pic of the bike if you get a chance.

Any bike is worth new tires. I remember seeing one of these in a thrift store about ten years ago, and did not think it was bad. Yes it is cheap, but it's not like it's going to randomly fall apart on you cheap.

Bikes: Seriously downsizing.

Sounds perfect for the CCRT ride next month.

The exaggerated lugs caught my eye, then I saw the head badge. I couldn't just ask for it, so I added up potential expenses and made the offer. It went from her barn to mine, now with less dust. Although it rides and shifts, I can only imagine what the inside of the hubs look like. I noticed taking the pictures that the shifter cover is broken on the side, and that the paint shows some fading. Was considering wrapping it with wood grain contact paper, leaving the lugs the same.
