I can't help you with the stand, but your picture gave me an idea to make something similar with a fork clamp and a saw horse. I have both pieces already, so I could throw together an auxiliary stand for a quick repair when my main stand is occupied.

WTB/Trade/Borrow a Suntour bottom bracket tool that fits these Suntour cups. This is on an early 80s MTB.

edit: FWIW the Park OBW-3 brake tool fits almost perfectly in this BB but isn't strong enough and doesn't have enough leverage to move a stubborn cup.

edit: Figured out that the tool is the ST-TA230

I might have one. Let me check when I get home.

Gah. What I have is apparently a New Winner freewheel adjustment tool, per https://www.bikeforums.net/17805764-post10.html . Sorry @9volt!

I might have one too. I know I have the tool for the sealed hubs, not sure if it's the same tool. I'll look this weekend.

I have the SunTour TA-230 tool. I can bring it to Riverview for you to use, if you want.

N.B. the Park "yellow" pin tool will also work with these cups, if they're not too stuck:

I've been able to get those off using an adjustable pin spanner. It's a little awkward, but it works.

I tried one of these Bbs with a spanner and it had none of it. Luckily the frame is pretty toast anyway.

Want to understand. What didn't go as expected? John Thompson's reputation is about as solid as anyone's here (a couple notches above mine, and right up there with T-Mar). I'm not accusing, but would like to understand where communication and expectation parted ways.

No offense meant. I think mine was just more stuck than using a pin spanner would work on. I'm sure a looser bottom bracket like this could be coaxed with other methods, but mine was tight enough to need the correct tool. I never found one so the Suntour BB is still in the frame. The frame was too crappy to really put much effort into finding the right tool.

I've never seen a non-DS BB cup stuck so tight that it wouldn't move after the lock ring was loosened. Um, you did loosen the lock ring, didn't you? Just about any BB lock ring tool should loosen that one.

do any of you guys have a crappy little 110 volt mig welder and a side grinder.
it would take about 1/2 hour to tack up a tool substantial enough to make instant work of removing the lock ring
how about a drill press, tap and die set, and assortment of small bolts ??? take much longer than the welder, but can still be done.

Hey everybody!

Putting a search out here:

I am looking for an 80's bullmoose bar. It does not have to be great, just good.

I have quite a lot to trade for it so if any of you have one in your pile of handle bars, give me a PM.

Thanks!

My apologies. That sure read with a completely different tone a day or two later.

Looking for a band clamp for these Dia-compe levers. Slightly odd ball in that it takes an M5 bolt with a 4mm head. All the other levers I have around have clamps that take a larger bolt.

Have for trade: Lots of XT MTB stuff, NOS Freewheels, Tools...

You're not by chance interested in my equally vintage Slingshot-style handlebar, are you? Like this one (not my image):

WTB mid 70s 23.5" Raleigh Pro, Int, or Comp Frameset

Bad paint/chrome is a perfect candidate as I'm on a low budget. (Or I can trade a 2011 similar size Milwaukee Road frameset for a Raleigh with ok paint. This Milwaukee is tig welded, 73 degrees parallel, fits 28s with fenders or 35s w/o.)

50cm 1985 or 1986 Pro Miyata frameset w/ red and yellow livery, or an early-80s Team Miyata frameset in blue and gold livery.

This one was listed in my local CL a while ago. Might be a little big.

The tool for the hubs isn't the right tool. I do have a Park HCW-11 which looks like it might work but if you're close to JDThompson you should probably use the Suntour tool.

I am searching for a right side silver Simplex Retrofriction lever. Could be plain or could be Simplex engraved. What I really need is the internal spring as I have a mount and the lever shell and the screw/cap combo but I'm willing to swap/buy a full lever.
