Help ID a Pinarello
Hey Folks,
I don't think it's the Montello because of the routing, but I didn't think the record, or treviso, had SLX tubing.
Anyone more knowledgeable about Pinarellos want to help me with model/date?

I thought so too, seller says no, just lightly ridden.

There also appears to be a chainstay bridge in the top photo, which is another sign that it's not a Montello. The SLX decal doesn't look correct either. I've never seen one with the top line "Tubi Superbutted" in red, which htis appears to be. Dual bottle bosses and pump peg, if oEM, puts it into the late 1980s. This could just be a Treviso with a (faux?) SLX decal. SOP is to check for helical ridges inside the bottom of the fork's steerer (indicating at least SL) then check fo same inside bottom of tubes at BB.

The issue is if I want to be, and at what price. Asking price is reasonable, but reasonable doesn't cut it for me. I have a lot of nice bikes sort of like this, and a FAR cooler Pinarello (at least I think so).
Actually...the more I'm thinking about this, the less interested I am. I think I'll post to the ebay thread.
As an FYI - I have an agreement to meet the guy tonight at 8. If someone wants this (asking is $600), let me know and I'll facilitate.

Does anyone know when Columbus started using red decals with SLX on the fork? I didn't think that happened until the early 90's but I could definitely be wrong.
I think I've seen a few Montellos with this kind of brake cable routing, but they're usually internal. As T-Mar says, the lack of chainstay bridge is the real indicator.
The flat fork crown on this bike looks like that on my ~1984 Gran Turismo (except that one is chrome). The later ones I've seen have a more sloping crown, at least in the upper models.

Labels located opposite the pump peg typically are damaged by the pump. This one looks unusually nice and so is suspect.

So probably an SL model, mid-80s.

I wouldn't even bet on it being SL. The 1987 catalog shows the Dolomite and Veneto with this sort of a fork crown, though neither appears to have a braze on for the front derailleur. The Asolo has the front derailleur braze on but not the same fork crown. I'm guessing it's one of these models from a different year, but still late 80's. The paint may be original, but the decals likely are not.

Something about the placement of the SLX sticker and Pinarello decals looks off to me, they seem crowded right up against the seat lug and each other.
