Bikes: they change so much I'm tired of updating this

000 steel wool and chrome polish with a lot of work. I did a whole frame and fork and it turned out great.

Thanks for responding sloar... interesting that steel wool / silver polish would work on chrome. I was scared to try SW for fear of scratching the chrome. Read somewhere that was why alum foil was so effective because you COULDN'T scratch chrome since AF is a softer material. I was thinking SW was 'harder' and would scratch into the chrome.

I did use SW & polish on the aluminum rims & spokes with pretty good results.

I will try your method later today and will report back. Thanks again.

I would avoid SW unless it is brass Wool. I think it will scratch as evidenced on my Montello

Bikes: A few

If SW is used, make sure it is the 0000 level of softness. And don't forget the polish, remember the polish...

BRONZE WOOL! Yes... that is the ticket! Combined with some Quick-Glo polish, this stuff is magic. Doesn't scratch the chrome, and not only gets the clear coat off much, much easier than my previous methods, but takes care of the small rust pitting as well as the tinfoil-water method. Had to order it from Amazon as neither the local Home Depot or Lowe's had it in stock.

I think it was riddle of Steel that did a chrome SLT 12.2 up with a modern-y group.

Really cool!

Both of yours are really sweet as well.

Thanks Golden Boy... I've got more pics to post (attach), but every time I post via attachments, the 2nd pic is rotated. 3rd pic normal, 4th pic rotated... very aggravating. I need to figure out what's going on as I want to post the before pic, then the after pic right next to it.
