Dad is long gone and my going is getting closer every day. That said, my father's day was half disaster half great.

Made myself a coffee, started a fire in the wood stove (still chilly here in Canada) and went to was the dishes (I am the dish washer in our house). Filled the sink, turned the hot water tap off and it did not go off..?

The ancient mechanism broke, on Sunday and fifty miles from the city. What to do? Well, to make a long story short, I grabbed a set of taps that I found at our local landfill site, modified the counter top to make the tap set fit and, poof, everything worked out perfectly for not a penny spent. The whole thing went so well that, upon finishing, I opened a tall can of Steam Whistle beer, lit up a poof and poofed.

Great day and I even treated myself to something extra special, but I will probably have to sell it - a mint, black with full matched Campy nine speed group Cyclops that I have lusted over since I saw it, years ago, in a local bike shop where it was being fitted with the new full and matched Campy group. At that time the bike was not for sale but I am buying it this morning, when I go to the city to car hunt.

I think I appreciate Fathers Day more now, as a grandfather of two, than I did the first time around.

Bikes: See my signature

My oldest boy took me to Seattle yesterday to watch the Seattle Mariners game.

Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of my dad riding his Spectrum - although there are several of him competing in RAMROD, Cannonball (cross state WA state ride in 1 day) back in his ultra distance riding days. This photo was him with his old hot rod project 1965 Falcon Sprint when my brother bought it back into the the family in 2014.

Miss mine a lot. Wish he could have enjoyed his grand kids. WW II vet, German shrapnel took him out of the front lines, Purple Heart and a big divot of a scar on his back. 41 years Government service.

My two daughters called from Seattle where they were having brunch together. Miss them a lot too.

Spent a couple of hours working in the years loosing a couple of lbs in the heat and humidity. When out for dinner with my wife's niece's family. Good time.

Bikes: yes please

♫ We'ew a happy family, we're a happy family, we're a happy family, me Mom & Daaa-ddy ♫ I was lucky to grow up with great parents, I just wish they'd been around longer. Both Greatest Generation and depression era mindsets, they instilled good values. Dad earned a purple heart on Iwo Jima & Saipan. 2 older brothers away at school when this pic was made. As usual I'm eating something.

I was able to get out for 24 miles with my dad this year. He’s the one that got me back in the saddle, so it only seemed fitting.

I'm sorry, northbend.

My wife and I took a ride in the country. It was hot, and she wasn't ready for the heat, so it was rough for her, but we made it back.

My older daughter called from Colorado, and we had a nice chat.

My younger daughter and her girlfriend were going to come for dinner, but as we were getting ready to drive back to NYC, she texted and asked if we'd be willing to go to her place, as they were exhausted from their travels, so I said sure. It was a long trip to Brooklyn and back, but it was worth it. I got to see their cat and dog, too, which was nice. Well, the dog is nice. The cat is nasty, but she's young, so there's hope.

Then today, my older daughter posted a heartfelt tribute to me on facebook. So father's day was nice for me, though I still miss my father as much as ever. He died in 2009.

Lost my pops in 2012 and still think of him nearly every day, My girl made me chocolate chip cookies and a home made card and I took a long (for me) ride on on the '92 Allez in the morning - a very good day..

When I was a sophomore at Oregon State and struggling during a dark rainy winter quarter, I had taken too big a class load, I took a moment from feeling sorry for myself to recall that at my age, my dad was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was simultaneously going back to college, married, working full time at Safeway and was the father of 2 young boys (my older brothers)........all I had to do was go to school. It was a suck it up buttercup moment for me.

Dad and I on my birthday a *few* years ago

It's been 19 years since my father passed. But in 2016, a national newcast reported on the 50's anniversary of the Beatles last concert at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. No cameras were allowed. My father was a TO cop and had complained to me about that night for decades, what a bloody nightmare it was. Leading off the newscast was a still pic and there's Dad, second from the left, sweaty armpits, sandwiched between tortured amps and screaming girls. I look it up every fathers Day, smile and say hello.

Nice to see everyone’s pictures and read the stories! I spent Father’s Day riding bikes with my kids, so it couldn’t have been better. My dad’s far away in Taiwan but close to my heart.

My Dad would have been in full agreement with yours, he was not a fan of the Beatles or rock at all. I on the other hand am a huge fan of most all classic rock and am fortunate enough to have passed it on to my only child, my son. I can't imagine not having had music in common, very lucky indeed. Good, bad or otherwise your story gives me a smile too, tx.

I had to work of Father's Day, but I did call my dad when I got home. He told me how much he liked the Schwinn Collegiate 5 speed that I had dropped off a week ago. It had been my late father-in-law's bike. I put new tires and tubes on the Schwinn before dropping it off, but it is otherwise all original. My dad had been riding a too small, pre-Raleigh, Hercules that badly needs an overhaul. Maybe I can bring it back the next time I get over there.

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.

Dad dropped out of high school to join the Royal Navy in 1940. Managed to get accepted to the University of Manitoba after the war anyway, and went on to earn a PhD from McGill in Montreal. Never did get his high school diploma, though.
