Bikes: atala cromor salsa las cruces slingshot boomtube merckx mxm

Looks to me like magnets for a speedometer put on both sides so the wheel could go in either way

So one side does have a magnet and the other side a groove as if for an o-ring or round belt. The later side is chewed up (thanks to omitted spacer under locknut) so perhaps it also housed a magnet originally? These little buggers are latched on tightly, too.

Bikes: To many to name - I ride a custom built steel frame.

Huret Multito driver

This is the driver for a 1980's vintage Huret Multito mechanical odometer.
Proper mount would include 3 flat aluminum straps, fitted through the visible slots, and wrapped around spokes.

The belt is a basically an O ring and the head had two pulleys, one for 700c and one for 27" wheels.

Getting to be somewhat rare.

Very cool.

I have a digital Huret speedometer that bolts right to the R fork. Pretty neat gadget, and it still works.

The bike gadgetry of that era was pretty cool. Inventors sure didn't give up on trying to find the next great one.

I recently purchased a parts bike that came with one of these. The pulley on the odometer has two groves, the outer being smaller. It was mounted on a 27” wheel set and was using the outer smaller pulley. Does anyone know if this was correct for 27” wheels?

Bikes: '84 Peugeot PH10LE

I have one of those still mounted to my '84 Pug ( bought it new) and it still works--34 years later.
Chriscraft--mine is set for 27" wheels. I'll check when I get home and confirm which diameter groove the belt fits for 27". Also, mine attaches to the axle, not the fork.

This Multito I have also attaches to the axle/hub, Not the fork. When removing the front wheel, the entire Huret Multito stays attached to the wheel.

The aluminum straps were only needed for mounting where the built-in clips won't fit the hub flange.

Smaller groove = 700C, more turns per mile.
Larger groove = 27", fewer turns per mile.

Or maybe it's the other way around.

The front (smaller) groove is for the 27" wheels.

By coincidence another recently acquired bike had Cateye CC-1000 disc and cable attached. Couldn't be much newer than the Huret (maybe equivalent of touch tone phone? ^^ ).

I couldn't remember the brand, but I do remember taking that long steep road behind Mt Diablo with my Multito. When we reached max speed, the gears overdid it and spewed out the side of the case.
