Bikes: Bikes??? Thought this was social media?!?

Has Shimano ever produced a sealed BB with Italian threading???

Before I start a disassembly of the '84 Pinarello, i'm anticipating possible problems.

TIA for your help

I think that’s an ‘S’ on the replacement BB

...the 70 mm ones are all Italian threaded. So RH threading both sides.

edit: I had a momentary lapse, but am still a good person.

Thanks for quick reply.
Previous owner was admittedly 'Not into C&V, but wanted a bike to ride L'Eroica'. Which he didn't do.

I think the 70mm ones are Italian threaded, but 68mm and 73mm are English: https://www.universalcycles.com/shop...9&category=347

+1. 73mm are typically ATB BB with English thread. Shimano offered their cartridge BB in Italian threading and 70mm width at Dura-Ace, 600 Ultegra, 105 and RX-100 levels.

I don't know if they still do but they offered the square taper and Octalink cartridge BBs in Italian threading. Even the early Shimano external bearing BBs were offered in Italian threading.

By estimation, I'd say that Shimano stopped doing any French-threaded stuff around 1980.

Italian threaded bb's from Shimano are still in production, or are at least supplied by them, in many formats, including square-taper, Octalink and Hollowtech.

On a related note, I've never seen a French-threaded Shimano freewheel, only headsets.

Bikes: '70s - '80s Campagnolo

After you remove it and clean the frame real well, just put it back in there if it seems to spin ok. It won't hurt a thing. (This assumes you'll just reuse the same crankset.)

Wildwood, your tubular wheels (120mm rear) are my next project. I'm going to rebuild them and try to reuse as many spokes/nipples as I can.

...FWIW, like T-Mar wrote, the Italian threaded ones were usually on stuff like 600 and Dura-Ace, so are often of high quality and worth reusing if they seem to spin well, like SurferRosa wrote.

I have an Italian Octalink 6500 sitting here, inside a Colnago. It's destined to come out, but I agree with others, they're out there in square taper and Octalink, not sure about the Hollowtech II

I just bought a 36x24 UN 55 from Amazon for my Eroica bike (Is that cheating? I feel kind of dirty.)

Well, at least your bottom bracket wont't "feel dirty".

I have a set of Italian Hollowtech II Dura Ace cups in my Colnago, so they do exist. At least they did a decade ago.

Well after Eroica, I’ll probably take it out wipe it off and put it back in just to complete the vintage experience.

Bikes: A few

I could sure drop some weight and ramp the Italian-ness up on the Cinzia if I switched the BB from cotter to square. Hoots just thinking about a folder with that mod!

Back to Earth.
