That's the solution? For those that didn't understand, the solution is to go to bare steel. Good luck keeping that mirror bright. Sprayed with clear acrylic? Moisture will go right through and begin the rusting process again within months, if not weeks, unless you keep it in a climate controlled vault. Search previous threads about unpainted steel bikes.
Sheesh.

Amazing how they get those caps so nice, just using their own rattle can paint. It's all in the prep, they tell me.

Chrome painting

My take on this is that, if it is done well, it is definitely an improvement. FWIW.

If I could get that result out of a can, I would be satisfied, too. Looks more like nickel than chrome, but I wouldn't complain! Now show me how

Sheesh.
Hey man, nice shot. I guess all the years I spent making custom knives for a living taught me nothing.

Last ride 76 has that number 397 triathlon competitor bike above that is a GREAT Looking bicycle. The three paint colors just do something there. That Wine/burgandy color is really nice but the Silver Sections and the White Sections make it an all-time classic. Everything is just right! The small areas done in silver, and the two white locations are placed perfectly. It reminds me of the ancient Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud models of the early sixties that were sometimes two-toned at the factory. The overall balance of those three colors on Last ride's bike is just perfectly done! How they figured out just where to start and stop the color sections is something.... , perhaps like most everything, they experimented and made minor changes until they achieved the proportion and the balance. Super!

I do not question your knowledge regarding the care of knives, or of steel blades or even steel in general. I know very little about it, other than it rusts, unfortunately.
However...

I think often the actual conditions custom steel knives and bicycle frames are commonly subjected to, are sufficiently different, that the maintenance requirements are also different. I also do not want to have to regularly spend extra time having to care for the steel frame of my bicycle.

The subject of bare steel bike frames has come up before . The concept is not exactly new. A fair number of C&V folks (besides me) appreciate the look, for a variety of reasons. If you had checked the earlier threads on the subject, it would perhaps show how your experiences with custom knives might apply to bicycle frames, and then would be of benefit to BF at large.

PS I really loved the look of my bare steel bikes, and have not entirely given up on the idea.
Best regards, Eric

Came from Nonfixie. BF required I delete some photos. I accidentally removed attribution, now restored. I agree it's sublime, but can't take credit.

OMG! It made your Simplex derailleur look like a Shimano? Can you buff it out?
