Could be the photo angle, but I'm seeing possible fork issues.

Bikes: A bunch of old bikes and a few new ones

Even if it were dirt cheap, I'd likely pass on this. Even assuming that the frame is sound, this will cost $ to fix and the resale value will never be much.

Bike looks excellent, but I can foresee some potential dress clearance issues.

May want to consider a step-through frame.

Plus, the lack of ... pedals may become an issue at some point.

Needs some Campy stickers to go along with the Univega and S-Works decals.

Agree about the fork -- looks wonky.

For free it might be a good fixer upper for an errand bike, if there's no frame damage along with the frokked fork.

But I'm a sucker for Univega, especially the Bi-Axial Power Oval frames and splattertastic Pollack paint.

That's a mess. It's been cannibalized. Oh the horror.

The Maxima Sport is along the bottom of the line. Even if the frame is perfect, it’s nothing to fuss over. But I agree that the fork need to be viewed in person at the very least.

Bikes: old ones

...with the customized fork and the beginnings of a sticker collection already present, that would make a way cool fixie.

I saw this on a FB page for sale and tried to tell the seller the fork was bent, but of course he insisted it was fine. I was just looking for other opinions.

Bikes: Kirk Custom JK Special, 86 De Rosa Pro, '84 Team Miyata,(dura ace old school) 80?? SR Semi-Pro 600 Arabesque

it is a rare s-works univega, done when univega was the skunks work site for specilialized (hence the S for Skunk-works)

the fork was an early attempt and the disproven idea of variable geometry, what you can see is the mechanism for adjusting the fork

very rare, last example sold at auction for $100k

pass this on to the owner, in fairness

Bikes: One of everything and three of everything French

"S works" in this case is a reference to the reshaped fork blades. One may speculate that the rider had his hands atop the hoods when the fork modification occurred, resulting in the unorthodox bar position. It probably rides wonderfully. Just needs a few more stickers.

Back in the days when the Old Ten Speed Gallery was a thing I would say this was a pie plate away from the Trifecta of entry level sadness along with the stem shifters and safety brakes but some entry level frames ride like a dream. Univega is one of the few larger bike makers from bitd that haven't passed through my hands. If I was bored and it were free I might see what it had to offer.

...I can go you about a half step up on that one. Kid comes into the co-op with a freshly painted fork. It is for his fixie project. He wants some help mounting the new crown race. It is bent backward from the crown downward in the most beautiful "S" shape you have ever seen. Perfectly symmetrical on both sides. I tell him the bad news, and he looks me square in the eye and says, "NO, clearly it was made that way. And anyway I bought it here, then had it painted to match my frame." He was so insistent that someone needed to help him mount the race that finally someone else broke down and did it for him.

So here's the punchline....three weeks later he is back, and he wants to post a flyer, because someone stole it from whatever hipster, dive bar, bike rack he had it parked in.

There is a moral here, I think. I'm just not sure what it is.
