That really looks spot on (screen at least) the late 80s look I'm going for (if I got celeste). You having him apply decals and 2-part urethane clear over?

Time will tell. At this point I think I'm going to follow the example set by Drillium Dude and use basic blue bar tape to avoid "over celesting" the bike. This will also avoid xiaoman1 's problem with finding the right shape of celeste bar tape to match the frame. I'm also leaning toward blue cable housing and bottle cages. The idea is that this blue will match the blue in the decals. I already have bar tape that will do a fair job of that. I'm going to take my decaled swatch to Universal tomorrow to see how the Jagwire SID Blue housing looks with it. If it ends up feeling like too much blue, I'll back off to silver bottle cages and light gray cables.

We need to keep in mind that many of the Bianchi's of the day, especially the top ones like mine and DD's came with high zoot black leather Almarc bar tape.
Seems to me like Celeste bar tape is a cruel joke after thought.
The blue is a good idea. Benotto would be the obvious choice.

It's a color that definitely grows on people.
Used to hate the color in the 80's and can't figure out why my brother loved it so much and never quit dreaming about owning a Celeste Bianchi.
These days, I won't mind at all owning a Celeste Bianchi...... if only the paint held up better through the years..
Even my uber Bianchi Celeste fan brother who finally bought his first couple of C&V Celeste Bianchis, in the past few years, is frustrated that most of them seem to have really bad paint crazing problems.

You are right about the color and the crazing...I am fortunate in that none of mine have any paint issues other than rock chips...fingers crossed.
Looking forward to Andy's build.
Best, Ben

AJI125, Yes the old Color Theory and wheel works every time.....Triads are good as well as complimentary colors.

Rudimentary wheel, but good.

Glad you got there and I wish Cinelli didn't have the embossing, I like their tape and would run the black on nicer bikes.

Because everyone wants this thread to continue... got some RAL samples so thought I’d add a couple more pictures. Columbia coatings RAL-6027 is indistinguishable to me on the swatches from either Prismatic or Columbia Sea Foam Green. The difference in the Prismatic sample (#2) is the gloss level and smooth versus the others being slightly orange peel (substrate, powder, or method of coating difference? I don’t know). Sorry for all the glare, my garage is just not as picture friendly as I’d hoped! Whenever I’m ready to choose and move on I’ve got a stack of samples if anyone needs!

- Columbia Sea Foam Green
- Columbia RAL-6027
- Columbia RAL-6034
- Columbia Surf Green
- Columbia RAL-6033

I went through the same head scratcher reworking my Bianchi. Here's what I ended up with...

The lighting makes a big difference. If you look back through my thread, the color on the frame changes significantly depending upon the light. I have maybe half a dozen different shades of spray paint in my garage that I'll never touch again but ended up with paint code: Pantone 332c code. However, I would spray different brands of paint on scrap pipe, let it dry and then take them outside in the sunlight to see how it looked.

I don't think it's just the lighting. I noticed that same site (My Perfect Color) and it has paint match info. Taking it with a grain of salt, here's the values for Pantone 332c, RAL-6027, and Prismatic Sea Foam Green. All are similar but Pantone 332c has the highest "lightness" by quite a margin. I didn't think to check much before, but you can see Sea Foam Green and RAL-6027 are nearly identical.
