yellowjersey website

I've seen a few posts referencing yellowjersey.org in the C&V forums and they show a rack on their site that is a fair price to me. I don't think I need it but for some reason I want it. However there is no link to buy it. It seems that in this day and age, even if their internet provider was wack, they would set up an eBay store or something. But maybe this is how they keep prices fair. Who has experience with them?

Long story short, am I going to be OK calling them in the morning with my debit card information?

Well, I'm not certain they are open tomorrow, but I have done exactly what you describe.

And no, Andy has no interest in the internet.

If you are asking whether Yellow Jersey/Andy Muzi are trustworthy- I would say yes, I have dealt with him in person and over email. Google "Andrew Muzi."

He used to post a lot on Usenet... Rec.bicycles.mech or something like that. He would argue sewups and chainlube with the best of them.

Have always had genuine, helpful interactions with them.

I'd trust them with a credit card, but I don't really trust anyone with a debit.

Safer to use a form of payment with some semblance of buyer protection, regardless of who you're dealing with.

In person with cash, whatever. Your nose will help sort it out.

Thank you. I thought it looked real, and my sipdey senses didn't go off. After a little more looking, I see they take PayPal and I will probably look over some more of their things to see if there is anything else I can use but don't need.

Their website is a bit of a pastiche, but yes, they are for-real.
I had them customize the gearing on a 4-speed freewheel, and they really saved the day.
I am about to have a frame-set painted by them.

Definitely a real store. I worked there with Andy Muzi as boss for a time in the 80's. This is when they were on State St. in Madison, pre- internet. It seem s they have moved.

I've bought from him over the phone, and glad I did. I needed an 18t aluminum sprocket for an early "Old Winner" freewheel. Not only did he know what it was, but he found one (NOS) and sent it to me. The web site is a frustration - stuff is still on there that was sold out more than ten years ago.

You can email them. I found some items I was interested in, and emailed asking price, availability, and shipping. I got a response in a couple of days.

That "Internet circa 1998" look (see also: Sheldon Brown) is a kind of C&V by this point.

I think the only way it could be more C&V would be if there was an order form to cut out of an ad in one of the old Bicycling magazines from the 80s.

Considering that possibility I emailed them to see if what I'm looking at is still there. I also sent a picture of the bike I want to put it on because from what I'm gathering from the comments in this thread, he will know if it will work for me or not.

I purchased a SunTour X-1 rear derailleur from them over 10 years ago and set it up with a SunTour Winner Pro 7 speed freewheel and matching SunTour Superbe Pro 7 speed accushift shift levers and an XCD front derailleur and was able to set up a sweet shifting 3X7 touring bike that had zero issues. I liked their SunTour page on their website but it is super not up to date now.

Correct; the rents all up and down State St. jacked up sky-high, and Andy got tired of living in the city. He bought an old closed bank building up in Arlington and I think he bought a house out there as well. Still driving that old black Chevy II Nova.

Just a guess about the "rack" the OP is after. I called Yellow Jersey about the Berthoud decaleur they have a picture of and they dont have any in stock. I emailed Berthoud and they said that they will be restocking at the end of July.

My father in law lived in Madison, so me and the wife would visit. Really lovely in the summer (can’t speak for fall or winter). Loved walking down State street, coffee, morning buns, food from Nepal, and going to Yellow Jersey. If not for the winters, would have retired there!

Winters can be brutal here, but they can be beautiful and fun. They sometimes plow the bike paths BEFORE the streets. And lots of other winter activities right in town. But you definitely need to adjust the viscosity of your blood every fall / spring.

The father in law would grumble about the bike paths being cleared of snow before the streets. Madison is a bike friendly place!

Yup, they are in up in Arlington now, and in talking to them, much happier at that location. Personally, I prefer their present location over the Madison one, cool old brick bank building, Andy’s office is the old safe, and plenty of parking. I have had 5 frames restored, and numerous wheelsets built up by them.
They are open 10 to 6 every day of the year, except possibly Christmas, and ship all over the world, I would just call them, Andy or Tim will answer and help you out.

Andy Muzi has been on the Internet since at least the early 80s; look in the usenet rec.bicycles.tech archives. But point taken; he has little interest in setting up a web based sales platform.

So, yeah. You need to call or email: tel: 608-257-4737 or mail@yellowjersey.org

Andrew sold me my first racing bike about 30 years ago.

They remain super helpful, well stocked and experts in their passions, which include everyday tubular tires.

Back in the day, when it had two locations on State Street, it was a legendary place for aspiring cyclists like me.

Tom Schuler, of 7-Eleven, Motorola and Saturn teams, led the "Bone Ride" each May from his home in Wauwatosa, to Yellow Jersey and State Street sidewalk lunch, back to the Milwaukee area, roughly 160 base-building "bone head" miles. It started as a training ride for his race crew and others, but later grew to a huge event/trainwreck.

My email went unanswered and I kept forgetting to call until today. The gentleman called back after giving him payment information and said he didn't have the front rack for the center-pull brake setup but he could send one for side pulls. I figured it was cheap enough and that I will have a side pull equipped bike eventually with a crowned fork so I went ahead and kept the order. He got it out very timely apparently as I got a tracking number that indicates it will be here Monday.

Maybe this weekend I can look over the site again for more things I don't really need or want. To touch back on the point ThermionicScott made, ordering something by phone for the first time in a long time had a C&V vibe to it.

Bikes: Seriously downsizing.

YJ painted my PX 10 and Mirella, and I've bought dozens of their 3 for $50 tubs. Good people.
