Yea; unfortunately I had never looked at it quite from that angle.

Anyone have a reccomendation for a 1 1/8" threaded fork with canti bosses? I guess I could go threadless if I changed headsets right?

What do you guys consider a quality frame to weigh in at? I'm considering a triple butted frame with a claimed weight of around 9 lb (it's a 20" frame)?

I just weighed my 21" frame which is tange prestige MTB double butted tubing. The frame, fork standard Tange MTB fork, headset, bottom bracket and seatpost quick release skewer weighed 8.5 lbs total.

That's reassuring, seems to be in the same ballpark.

Or, put your life in your hands and mount a front basket on that thing- it'll effortlessly handle loads with that little trail.

Check the paint on that fork for cracks- I have a feeling it might have been designed like that

Edit:

Edit 2: I googled "quantum elevated chainstay bike" to find that thread.

Well I'll be. I've seen straight blade forks angled from the steerer like that but never seen a curved blade fork at an angle. Guess they wanted a subtle bend and needed more rake after said bend.

Whatever, you've been riding it for 6 years, you're not dead. Leave it.

(Check the problem solvers link in my post, headset reducing spacers)

Edit: I'm really off tonight, I usually don't miss things like that, I figured it was so old that it couldn't be you. Either way, Ithadan out. Goodnight C&V.

I hastily bid on this last night; I actually hope I do not win it now, due to complete lack of 1 1/4" threadless headsets out there... I can not actually find one aside from the Chris King headset at this point. Wish I would've seen the 'Problem Solvers' posted above before I bid.

We have these ones old clunkers .... and like them as well.
The red Miele with Ishiwata frame was a bit of surprise.
I never saw a Miele that was not a road bike.

Bridgestone MB-3

Annie's bike (my lovely wife) and yes it needs bar end plugs and a level rack! We bought it new in 1991 or so IIRC, tig frame. It has 986 cantis which are the easiest cantis to set up ever.

Just picked this up off my local C.L., posted in the "Sporting Goods" section.
The BB is shot, the fork is sacked out, and the headset def. needs something, but not bad f0r $150. The seller said he had it listed on ebay, but local pickup only so no takers..

I always liked the 737 group. That's the one year that it came with cantis before the v brakes came out. Very nice find.

Elastomers are ~$50. I always liked the early manitou forks (before the bonded mach 5) for some reason. I had an EFC back when.

Fear not, if that steerer is long enough, here's a threadless headset for $40- https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dia-Compe-US...item19d90f56c5

Pretty sure giant is reviving the 1 1/4" size for their bicycles (in a tapered steerer form), of course they have a fancy name for it, but it's only a matter of time before 1 1/4" stems start popping up.

Decent tire for the money(I think around $18 online, I got these new on local CL for $20 the pair), 90 psi nice for road riding, obviously crappy for off road.

Thank you, I wasn't planning on buying anything, but it was too good of a deal. He told me he spent $2000 when new, I guess that may be right. He then showed me his other bikes, that he says he wants to sell also - 1995 Merlin Extralight, Judy, Full XTR, Litespeed Ocooce (?) 6al4v FS mtn bike, and a Bridgestone RB1 upgraded with Ultegra Brifters... He says he has $4000 each in the Merlin and the Litespeed, and $1000 into the Bridgestone. I started to do the math in my head, "Ok, he's selling me the $2000 bike for $150, so I should offer him $300 each for the Mtn bikes, and $75 for the Bridgestone?"
