what are the specs on that street stomper? i get the feeling from the name it was lower than the hard rock and not really intended for off road

The one I had came with Shimano light action mechs, I believe the shifters were 6 speed index only. The brakes were dia-compe 983, sugino triple crank (steel rings). I think it was straight gauge tubing. The weird thing about the one I had (it was the blue one) was the stem/bar, it was a 26.4 clamp..I've never seen a quill of that size before. From what I read, it seems like more of an on-road bike as you mentioned.

Haven't been able to find much on the brand, but figured it nothing of great value. It is a Jetter Quest. For $40 I figured couldn't go wrong..especially with the Suntour power thumbies. Also, I sold the horrible modern Specialized saddle for $20 the same day so not a bad start.
Build plans include: brown Brooks B-67, leather grips, triple crank, Suntour Vx-gt luxe RD, and eventually a wheel rebuild.

Yeah, I was afraid it was too small for me, but the geometry has a bottom-bracket forward and low bottom bracket that makes it very doable for me. Dropped off a Trek 4500 in trade, should be out there now..

They look like they're from around '86...stems, Diacompes, Tange tubes, friction Suntour, horizontal drops with adjusters. Really solid bikes.
They're $250 bikes in my local market.

Sweet bikes- anything like that for $15 is a great deal, yet you see it all the time. There for a while, people were just giving away old mountain bikes, just to get something with suspension. Give me greater fork rake and longer chainstays anyday.

Just goes to show there's still a lot of killer deals out there if you're willing to buy early mountain bikes.

At $30 each I was walking away. Then she said, how about 2 for 1 ? Couldnt resist that.
.
Not sure what to do with them. I can always use some spare mtbs for guests and friends, so perhaps just make them as ridable as possible.

they look pretty cool.. shame they are PG tubes, though in the early-mid 80s they had only just barely started making lighter tubesets for mtbs. hard to turn down sweet lugged mtbs at $15 a pop though!
bet they would make some cool singlespeed/townie/cruiser type bikes

My foul weather do all bike, a 1987 Cannondale SM400 converted to a 3 speed with a Sturmey Archer hub. This bike is as old as I am, but is rock solid.
