Didn't mean it was crap, just refering to crap bikes in general. If you think 300 is a good price... I respectfully think that is crazy, sorry didn't mean to insult this perticular bike, but it isn't worthy of 300 bucks but then I don't think any bike should cost more than 75 bucks

mswantak 06-01-06 11:43 AM

Yeah, $300 is pushing it a little for a dead-stock GT, but going prices vary a lot by area; out here I could get $250 for it without much trouble.

Oh dear Lord, 1939? Wow, they were early in on the suicide levers. Did he stab at the 7 key and hit the 3 instead?

NISHIKI COMP II 58cm High-End Road Bike - Made In Japan

VERY FEW road bikes were made in the country of Japan. Generally, the ones made there were of the highest quality, and used to display the Japanese frame-making art as production was shifted to Taiwan and other locations.

THIS ONE: NISHIKI COMP II 58cm
Dia-Compe Brakes & Levers.
Suntour Derailleurs & Downtube Levers.
Araya 700C Wheels with 5-speed freewheel on rear
Super-Mity Cranks with Dual Drilled Chainrings
Butted, Lugged, Hand Assembled 58cm Frame, Red Paint, circa 1981.

$450 for this fine, roadworthy upper-end road bike for someone about 6' tall.
- which also happens to be a collector's bike.
Beautiful original red paint.

File this one under Numbskull Buyer of the Day. Something very cheesy about this person's story. Trolling for sympathy, I'd say.

Do not know much about which bicycyle to buy: Can you help me?

I do not know much about bicycles and want to buy one. The price is not my most major conceern at this point. I just want to know what would be the best for me to buy. I am 40 five ten and one hundred forty five. I will use the bike for not much use all in all. I just want one that I can ride along the beach, from the T stop in Ipswich to Crains Beach and back. Maybe some riding along the Charles too. I live in the city. It just depends on how comfortable I get as time goes on, so I want a sturdy bike that will last as I intend to keep what I buy for a long time. I know it sounds stupid but I already broke my nose running and had a nose job that was oh so painful and I am afraid of going over the handle bars. I might do some off road biking too so should I get a "mountain bike" that can withstand the terrain? Any help would be grately apppreciated and I thank you for you time! Someone mentioned a "Cody" bicycle. Ever heard of that modle and think it might me right for me?

Wow, somebody figured out how to make a bike heavier than a Varsity.

I can see it now. Some loon is going to take this on RAGBRAI.

or at least on a Critical Mass.

Now I love Motobecane's, and I loved my Nomade as long as it lasted (it's fork is trashed after an accident and I am presently looking for a replacement), but a Motobecane Nomade from about 1979 for $69.99(!!!) is rediculous!

http://cgi.ebay.com/Motobecane-Nomad...QQcmdZViewItem

Although, apparently it has a Huret derailleur - I doubt that - as mine had a SunTour. This is like the splited image of my old one.

...and the TV+c|2@P Schwinn is rediculous.

pragueinspring 06-09-06 12:45 AM

Another one.

Not too numbskull - if I had that bike in my hands today, I could easily sell it for $100 tomorrow.

BobHufford 06-09-06 01:30 PM

Highlighting by me ... (I think they actually did think about producing this one -- from 1967 to 1982 at least). The Sierra Brown color was available from 1969 - 1973.

re: Huret derailleur. My GT (early 70s) came with Huret. Replaced the rear with Suntour V-GT before it ever left the shop. Front derailleur was fine and it had way long shift levers. Wish I had never sold that bike.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Koga-Miyata-Cros...QQcmdZViewItem - so many things wrong with this that I won't even start the list...

cuda2k 06-16-06 08:06 AM

http://cgi.ebay.com/Viscount-Fork-27...QQcmdZViewItem - recalled, pitted, oxidized, but claims is still strong enough for the seller to use... yet he's selling it cheap. Wonder why...

Little Darwin 06-16-06 08:50 AM

I don't know if the seller is the numbskull, or me...

I have been looking for a 1 & 1/8 threadless rigid fork with Canti bosses and at least 8" long steerer...

In my eBay search I found the following forks:

http://search.ebay.com/search/search...rclo=&saprchi=

I actually found one of them, and am watching it as I decide whether to buy used or just pay the LBS $45 (about $15 extra once shipping is included) for a new one...

But, I kept wondering... where is/are the ridge/s on this fork? It wasn't until I saw that there were several listed by this vendor that I realized that he made a spelling and/or grammar error...

I think I have to take the heat for being a numbskull here for not making the connection! Ridged vs rigid... :o

cuda2k 06-16-06 09:38 AM

Sounds like the type of spelling mistake I would make, over and over again, without ever realizing it. ;) Don't feel too bad.

http://stlouis.craigslist.org/bik/172526134.html

Just for grins, I looked up the bike in question. Available for under $400. And he paid how much? Gee, guy, sorry you got ripped...like you really paid $700.
