PuttPutt for the win! I'd say that is all you'd need to know.

"TRIATHLON BIKE and top-notch equipment for a 6” tall guy."

http://miami.craigslist.org/bik/209345884.html

Must be a pretty small bike for a 6" tall guy.

Sure enough, even when stated correctly (6 feet), another Numbskull moment pops up: The bike is a 55cm, you idiot! A 6' tall fellow would be crammed to no end on it!

I searched and found nothing indicating this had been listed before:

http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-70S-80S-...em180028533273

Seller says, "You are bidding on a Vintage Campagnolo road bike. Campagnolos are one of the most sought after bikes on the market." Maybe I'm the numbskull, entirely possible, but I've never heard that Campy made frames. It's getting some action. Anyone know what it is?

caloso 09-20-06 10:02 AM

I don't know if Campy made frames but I suspect that there's no decals or markings on the frame and the seller's just going on the components. Maybe it got a bad rattlecan paint job or something.

Still, it doesn't look terrible. It seems to have nice lugs and Campy dropouts. I've seen much worse go for much more.

+1

I bought one in much worse shape (for less) and ended up with a full 531 custom built frame (Corky) destined for a BF member... and the Campy components went to another BF member. :)

Sorry I got delayed, been busy the past couple of days and couldn't get out. As promised...

I had words with the manager, told her I could buy these on eBay all day for less than $75.00. Her reply: "But it has the manual"

It helps to remember that the sharper crayons tend to fall into other drawers. In some time it will go down to $200.00, and then to $100.00, and eventually to $49.95. That might not be until February though. :p

Maybe you should point her to the proper entry on the SLDB and show that it cost half that new, many years ago when it was current technology...

' Her reply: "But it has the manual" '

c'mon...Everyone knows manuals are worth 325$. Or more...;)

Sneak a Sharpie pen into the store and place decimal mark accordingly...

I ran into the same syndrome lately, on a Pacific ladies MTB. It was in a thrift store for what
I thought was $25. I go COOL and grab it just for parts. I get halfway through the line and look down, and it's $125!?!?!?! WTF!!! I also had words with the store head. She goes "I can't let it go for under $75."
My response? "Why not, it was $10 less than that brand new at Wal Mart??" Needless to say, it stayed
right where we talked, as I bought some vintage fruit crate labels for $1.50 a piece. They had no clue what was actually worth money, lol.,,,,BD

You might point out that you could buy the manuals all day for less that $5.00. Maybe the set makes them valuable ... (?)

No idea what the frame is, and my eyes are admittedly not as good as others on here -- but those calipers look to me like they have no name engraved on them. And that'd make them early, rare and pricey.

The pedals look to be rusty, but they have the strap loop on them -- if they can be cleaned up, they'll fetch a nice price too.

I nominate this seller for numbskull status for two reasons: the single lousy photo and the category into which he's placed his Raleigh International.

This could be a Freudian slip, or a commentary on index shifting:

New Ultegra "*****er set".

' Her reply: "But it has the manual" '

And how could you ever hope to operate such a complex piece of machinery without a manual? Imagine what might occur?

Let me apologize in advance because this Litespeed is not a classic or vintage frame, but I just love this part of the description:

"Just sitting on the saddle makes you want to speak Italian - but really, really fast!"

At which point you hit the casting call for the remake of "Breaking Away."

Considering the money he wants, it would have been nice if he'd have put one overall view picture in the ad. Might be nice to see what the whole frame looks like before bidding.

Yikes! I'm a newb and all, and even ride a Varisty...but I was desperate for a bike and spent 50 bucks on one with brand new tires... Don't get me wrong, I love this old and heavy s.o.b. but 150 seems waaay too much.

Guess I better nominate myself then:

$100 for a near-mint '82 ladies Varsity in metallic blue.
