Local Salvation Army... early eightys Schwinn LeTour very very nice condition, but not perfect. A beautiful rider for sure at only $400 :roflmao:

silversmith 09-16-06 07:35 PM

Stacey! That has to be a mistake.

I make a trip past the local Salvation EVERY working day. The most I've paid was 25 for a decent Trek mt bike.

I've gotten several nice Le Tours there for 10-15 bucks each.

No mistake... $400! They are closed today but tommorow, I'll swing by and grab a picture of the bike and price tag. I about crapped my pants when I saw the tag. I'd have thought about throwing down $40 on this, but not with an extra zero

Top tube should be fluted, for starters....Fork is wrong( No cloverleaf stamp), etc....

Not really a numbskull, but I found this ad to be funny and had to post somewhere.

The size of that seat, it looks almost like they mounted a couch!

My local Salvation Army store is not THAT bad, but the last time I was in there the wanted about $70 for a beaten to crap old Japanese Schwinn. It was worth maybe $15 on a good day. I think they are getting greedy.

Amvets has bikes really cheap, such as a nice old Varsity for about $12, and the same price for a lower level Windsor that I really should have bought.

East Hill 09-17-06 09:18 AM

I purchased a 1980 'gas pipe' World 'Sports' ladies model in a gorgeous shade of blue which had a seat to match which looked just like the 'saddle' shown in raverson's posting (except, of course, the saddle was BRIGHT blue!). This was not a saddle, this was a seat. Reminded me of a bar stool. Brought back memories of Naughahyde. I should have taken a photo of it, but it was just too ghastly.

Someone need to point out a single details which notes it as authentic besides the paint-job.

Every single colnago ever made has clovers and the word colnago engraved all over the frame, fork, lugs, seatstays, etc.

The bottom bracket should have a clover cutout in it, the fork is all wrong, the lugs are wrong, the seatstays are wrong, it might be me but... the spacing on the letters in the word colnago looks off.

The SLX decal is at the bottom of the seat-tube?

I asked the seller a bunch of these questions and didn't get a response.

Here are some fine pictures of how a colnago should look.
http://homepage.mac.com/mike.thomas/...FBD8D011D8.jpg

It looks like a nice frame... but CERTAINLY NOT a colnago.

A fiero is a nice car, but fiero in a fibergalss ferrari body isn't a ferrari. It is a ghetto fiero.

BMA certified 3 speed - only $500.

And this one is just of personal interested mostly, although the price is way too high (but not comically high as in the above link)

I sold this VERY SAME BIKE (yes this exact 1964 Schwinn Co-Ed 3 speed) two years ago, for $36. Now it's worth $125 - what is inflation coming to these days?

They said they got it from a friend in the military. I was in the military and stationed in Italy in the '80s. There were a lot of bikes/models sold there that weren't sold in the US. I wouldn't discount that the bike being sold was a low end Italia only model.

Interesting point, but why the high-end paint job on a "low end" colnago. And where can one get a low end bike with ultra-high end Columbus SLX tubing (as the decal indicates)?

While there are some models that aren't sold in the US ( I have one, a Colnago Competition, which is basicily a Master made for pro racers) all the steel Colnagos I've seen have the clover cutouts, bar none.

Sporkinum 09-18-06 07:55 AM

The black plastic el-cheapo pedals are pretty amusing though.

I emailed, and got no response. I wasn't rude or anything, here's what I wrote.

"Umm, sorry to sound ignorant? But, what is the brand name, model name, frame size, tire size, color, type of bike????"

Actually, for what it is, it's a very pretty bike. If: a. The frame wasn't too small for me, and b. The bidding's already gone past what I'd be willing to risk for the bike, I'd love to own it. It's just the kind of bike that I'd love to take on a ride heavily populated by Masi/Colnago/DeRosa snobs, just to watch them fume. If the bike turns out to be some that was actually sold as a Colnago, and has no status to it, all the better

Yes, I'm terminally anti-status, and a complete effing smart-arse. Hey, I fly colors in a motorcycle club - that should give a clue to a basic attitude.

I concur with those sentiments syke. A lot of the vintage guys are pretty cool about things, but there are some who are just soooo serious.

That said, it's one thing to knowingly misrepresent a bike/frame where money's at stake , and quite another to do what you're suggesting. :p :D

To those who don't subscribe, the Classsic Rendezvous bunch is going small scale ballistic on this bike - I'm finding it funny as all get out. Especially since, in that last two digests, someone there has come up with the same opinion: That this is possibly a honestto-God Colnago, that was never offered in the US, and is of a price line that the nose-in-the-air crowd would really prefer to be sold under another brand name.

At which point, I'm getting real sorry that the frame is too small for me . . . . .

Well, the price alone would qualify this seller as a numbskull, but then there's this claim for his 1979 Raleigh DL1: "It is one of the fastest bicycles I've ever owned and I've beat many racing pros on the road riding ten speeds! I've cared for this bicycle very nicely. Don't let the looks of the basic touring bike deceive you - She is fast!"

Yeah, when I think "fast bike," I think rod brake 3-speed with 28" wheels. Yeah.

Must've been a long downhill stretch. ;)

Bikedued 09-18-06 08:58 PM

Fast bike, quite possibly. If you can keep up the leg power needed to outspeed third on a SA hub more than a block? I can never hold up to that kind of cranking for long. Fun for short sprints, but it makes a exercise bike on high seem easy, lol.,,,,BD

What is top speed on that bike anyway, with your feet coming off the pedals on the upstroke?

May mean nothing, but... the same seller also sold a repainted Litespeed, a few months back:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=320005059178

Notice the words ..."It is custom painted by a professional airbrush artist using dupont chromabase paint and clear The color is from a 2006 corvette"... and ... "It was stenciled very tediously exposing the titanium underneath and coated with clear."...

Bikedued 09-19-06 07:27 AM

Shot himself in the foot, pretty much. For anyone watching his auctions that is. Sounds like he used the same guy to paint it.,,,,BD
