Green: I'm sure you are much happier with what you got than you would have been with that Schwinn.

Maybe just a LITTLE! I just need to find out some more info on it IF possible. I just CAN'T believe it is in my garage. I thought that a "good find" would never happen. Yes, I am impatient! From what I have learned, the components were very good in their day. Just not sure exactly where they stood in the Shimano line up.

Can someone tell me about this bike?
https://madison.craigslist.org/bik/421279914.html
I also don't understand the sizing. I current ride a 52/51 compact frame. Is it the same bike as this:
https://www.vintage-trek.com/TrekBrochure1982.htm#page8
I have not contacted the seller as yet (mostly because I don't understand the sizing). The fact that the picture is not drivetrain side out leads me to believe they are not really bike people and just had this thing sitting in their garage. Given what little we know about the bike, how does the price sound? I'm not familiar with the quality of the components if they are same as listed in the catalog.
Forgive my ignorance; I am not a vintage bike expect. The only vintage thing I had - and used - until a few years ago was Raleigh Rapide Mixte (1982).

Hi guys, I'm not a regular on this forum, but I figured this is the place to ask - What did I buy here?
https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=018
I just wanted some small, inexpensive saddlebags with a classic look. I'm wondering if I got an incredible bargain or just an average deal.

It's tempting...but I need to save up to visit San Jose before bigbossman makes me feel worse about not coming down to visit.

This is a very weird "find" for me personally: it's a bike almost exactly like my 1984 Raleigh. Normally that wouldn't be so weird itself, but I bought the frame and component groups separately, and assembled the bike myself. My spouse asked if the owner might be my long-lost identical twin (Deity-of-choice help him)!
Actually I don't think the seller is the original owner. Components alone are worth the price of admission, though I like the frame a lot: 22-1/2" size (I think auction bike is the same) with 74/74 seat + head angle, wheelbase just under a meter.
My own bike is back together again, and I'm going to photograph it this weekend, and post on C&V rides, if you're interested in the "sizzle" potential of this bike.

Update: Tore it down today.
Is anyone interested in this bike for a cheap price???? Otherwise, I am going to tear it down & scarp the frame. I will give about an hour or so for a response, unless you guys suggest to scrap it due to the dent. & where did the Shimano 400 Der. fall in the line up?
Thank you,
Chris

Stokerpoker,
I think that "bad" feeling left when I saw the first bike! But I am going to be cruel & post the lower Schwinn first.
Well, I am back with them. 1st up is a Schinn Traveller III, Shimano 400 f&r derailleurs, Schwinn brakes, pretty heavy. Slight dent in seat tube, but post still moves. $25.00

two old 3 speed bikes for $20 in St Louis

It's hard to tell from the photos what these are, but the price is certainly right. And I did notice a thread on this board about 3 speeds.

Here in MN, the hot market has now officially frozen cold.
Not only am I seeing $40 bikes again, but I have received 2 emails and one phone call from people to whom I have enquired about their bikes, asking if I was still interested.
Next year I will know that after the first freeze is when to get a bike on Craig's List, when people are thinking of how to get their cars in their garages.
