BB is 70mm.. beyond the lug work, I think the bottom of the top tube is the key to ID'ing this (clearly shown in the seatpost pic). I looked on CR and am still no closer to figuring out what this could be.

nope, not that lucky. I've got a few MTB's that come close. (a Univega and a Schwinn come to mind) but most of my clueless stuff is low end and or niche market stuff.

Green: I'm sure you are much happier with what you got than you would have been with that Schwinn.

Stoker,

Maybe just a LITTLE! I just need to find out some more info on it IF possible. I just CAN'T believe it is in my garage. I thought that a "good find" would never happen. Yes, I am impatient! From what I have learned, the components were very good in their day. Just not sure exactly where they stood in the Shimano line up.

I also don't understand the sizing. I current ride a 52/51 compact frame. Is it the same bike as this:
https://www.vintage-trek.com/TrekBrochure1982.htm#page8

I have not contacted the seller as yet (mostly because I don't understand the sizing). The fact that the picture is not drivetrain side out leads me to believe they are not really bike people and just had this thing sitting in their garage. Given what little we know about the bike, how does the price sound? I'm not familiar with the quality of the components if they are same as listed in the catalog.

Forgive my ignorance; I am not a vintage bike expect. The only vintage thing I had - and used - until a few years ago was Raleigh Rapide Mixte (1982).
The picture is really not good enough to get a good idea what model it is. I would think that if it is in fact a 1982 728, the price is totally reasonable. It might be a little small for you, but definitely worth looking at.

Hi guys, I'm not a regular on this forum, but I figured this is the place to ask - What did I buy here?

https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=018

I just wanted some small, inexpensive saddlebags with a classic look. I'm wondering if I got an incredible bargain or just an average deal.

This is a very weird "find" for me personally: it's a bike almost exactly like my 1984 Raleigh. Normally that wouldn't be so weird itself, but I bought the frame and component groups separately, and assembled the bike myself. My spouse asked if the owner might be my long-lost identical twin (Deity-of-choice help him)!

Actually I don't think the seller is the original owner. Components alone are worth the price of admission, though I like the frame a lot: 22-1/2" size (I think auction bike is the same) with 74/74 seat + head angle, wheelbase just under a meter.

My own bike is back together again, and I'm going to photograph it this weekend, and post on C&V rides, if you're interested in the "sizzle" potential of this bike.

Calling all Chicago bikers...anybody ever check out one of these? I've seen them posted before, and it goes to a charitable cause.

Update: Tore it down today.

Is anyone interested in this bike for a cheap price???? Otherwise, I am going to tear it down & scarp the frame. I will give about an hour or so for a response, unless you guys suggest to scrap it due to the dent. & where did the Shimano 400 Der. fall in the line up?

Thank you,
Chris

Well, I am back with them. 1st up is a Schinn Traveller III, Shimano 400 f&r derailleurs, Schwinn brakes, pretty heavy. Slight dent in seat tube, but post still moves. $25.00

two old 3 speed bikes for $20 in St Louis

https://stlouis.craigslist.org/bik/422233826.html

It's hard to tell from the photos what these are, but the price is certainly right. And I did notice a thread on this board about 3 speeds.

Wasn't someone looking for vintage cycling shoes in a bit larger size?

May not be vintage enough.

Here in MN, the hot market has now officially frozen cold.

Not only am I seeing $40 bikes again, but I have received 2 emails and one phone call from people to whom I have enquired about their bikes, asking if I was still interested.

Next year I will know that after the first freeze is when to get a bike on Craig's List, when people are thinking of how to get their cars in their garages.

I have had a guy call me back 2times for sure, but it may have been 3 asking if I was still interested in his Nishiki Olympics. 2 mens, 1 womens, 1973 vintage for $75.00/each. I was advised MAYBE $20.00-$30.00 TOPS if I remember correctly. I haven't persued it since I don't think he would come down THAT much.

Maybe in another week or 2, I will call & see if he has them all for $75.00.???

Charles or East Hill, do either of you remember how much they were asking for the Cresta? The post has been deleted. I just bought a Cresta and am interested to know how much they're going for around the country. Thanks.

I thought it was a bit on the pricey side, perhaps $300; but I'm not sure. I'm not saying it wasn't worth that, just that I remember it being more than your average CL thing that isn't an Italian Stallion.

Edit: it's back, for $150; a steal for the right person.
