Wow ... I was going to look for another chainguard to convert my late '66 Sting-Ray three-speed to a Stik-Shift bike (already have the decal and was going to keep the original chain guard stock), but I might have to rethink that.

I called the seller on this and was unsure if it was numbskull material.

https://philadelphia.craigslist.org/bik/508962438.html

$1,500 for a Raleigh tourist seems high to me. It has rod brakes etc. Seller keptelling me that someone from the "Ford Motor Company" kept trying to buy it from him for big $$$.

I saw that, and thought it might be interesting. Sounds to me like he'll have the bike for a while longer at that price.

For about $200, if he were to say it was in good shape, I would probably drive down to look at it. For $1500 I think I can resist the temptation.

I think this guy has re badged a chrome Voyageur as Paramount.

https://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Chrome-S...QQcmdZViewItem

It was on the Pittsburgh craiglist for weeks. I emailed the seller and he said there was no serial number on the non-drive side rear dropout. He never answered whether or not the drop out was campy or not. I do like the black Dura ace component though I don't tin the lug work is correct either.

Is the stem diameter too small?

Get a load of the brazing between the dropouts and the seat stays. Yech.

Just pointing out one that should have gone higher. I tossed out a half-hearted bid at the last minute when I saw it was stalled, but to no avail. The winner may have fought hard, but there should have been more dogs in the fight. This was a one-of-a-kind Schwinn ... (poorly presented unfortunately, but the seller had sold two somewhat similar bikes that went much higher). I was seriously thinking of selling my '75 Paramount to finance this (as I could always replace that easily). Oh well ...

Zunow frame on fleaBay

I like Zunows, I want one and this one is a monostay in a rideable size for me. But that paint job does nothing for me.

So you're just running the bid up for the hell of it?

And we wonder why so many things on ebay are overpriced.

Actually, I bid about six times what I can afford right now. I would have had big regrets if that bike would have sold for $160 and I just let it go. The other two Clubman bikes sold for around $700+ and $900+ from this seller. I didn't know the high bidder and had no clue what he was into it for. I wasn't shilling it though. I was really taking a stab at it ... to the best of my ability. I was just amazed that the bike was that underappreciated.

This post (by "lightweightking") to the Schwinn Forums on 11/14/07, explains what these particular Clubman bikes were about:

-----

The CCC

Cincinnati is an interesting story. Ed Brendamore of Brendamore's Sporting goods, purchased some thirty odd Clubmans/Tourers from Schwinn from 1940-1955. They were custom orders for the Cincinnati Cycling Club. Harry Ludwig was the first to purchase a Clubman in 1940 (no serial listed). These bikes were ordered just as frames, some seem to be badged, Superior and New Worlds as well of course, as Continentals. The bikes were assembled by my grandfather(Fred Todd) either in Lexington or Covington, Ky depending on time line. Basically they used whatever the customer wanted or whatever was deemed best. The grandson (Teddy Brendamore), is the one that auctioned of the two last Clubmans with my help. One was tracked down at a restaurant auction the other from the store's old warehouse, which is being converted to,(what else), condos.
Just a friendly heads up, two more look to be coming down the pike. One is a Superior the other a New World. There is also a very interesting Schwinn Tourer which has 50s components but I have never seen nor heard of such a thing. I'm looking through orders, but there really isn't any insight into these bikes other than seven were ordered. The frame has braze ons for cable routing and the Sturmey idler wheel. Ashtabula type, bottom bracket, that was converted to continental English sizing, fitted with early cotterless T.A. Cranks. Strange, but neat, nonetheless. When I get pictures I need someone to send them to, I haven't been able to download to this forum in the past.
Also a bit of a footnote is that some of these frames were ordered in Reynolds 531 tubing and could be built up to weigh a pound less than the Paramounts. All the ones thus far, to me seem to be a bit heavy by todays standards. The few Paramount Tourists I've been able to get my hands on were lighter due to the use of butted tubing (Reynolds 531) instead of the speced. internal sleeved Schwinn tubing.

LWK

-----

And yet Sting-Ray chainguards sell for $600+ and have asking prices of $1200.

https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=250197992342

I don't think I have anything to do with those prices ...
