ok, ive done some searching on here and on google and have been pretty fruitless thus far. i am looking for my next bike, well researching it anyway. this stems from my love/obsession with old BMW cars, i hear that BMW makes bikes too. ive done some searching like i said, and all im finding is the motorcycles, but i was hoping that that someone could give me some info, or point me in the correct direction. I would greatly appreciate it, i would love to have a bike with that blue and white emblem plastered across the head tube.

This isn't something I'm familiar with. If it is recent, perhaps someone in the Road Cycling Forum might know.

If I had to have a bike with an auto head badge, I'd lean towards the Ferrari. I know they made those.

I think they had a BMW-branded mountain bike sold with an SUV, some sort of marketing gimmick, like Cadillac bicycles. I assume it's not worth looking for. Maybe a BMW car dealer could give you some info?

If you ever want a good rundown of marketing, marketing, marketing take a look at the BMW lifestyle catalog(s). At this point, they're about as prevalent and thick as any LL Bean catalog. And, of course, sell to the same crowd at twice the price.

Back when I had my M3, I saw a couple of these bikes in Richmond BMW's showroom, alongside the polo shirts, belts, keychains, etc. Even though I wasn't back into cycling then, I didn't notice anything particularly exceptional about them. Actually, I wouldn't mind owning one (having already owned 2 cars and 2 motorcycles) - as long as I didn't have to pay any more than I would for a comparable Fuji, Raleigh, etc.

I know of two different bicycles sold under the BMW name. One was a fairly standard full suspension mountain bike, sold for around $1,000 USD. The other was also a FS mountain bike, but had a "telelever" front suspension, as used on many of BMW's motorcycles, which sold for around $3,000 IIRC. Never saw one in person so I can't comment on build quality, but the telever setup looked pretty slick.

thanks guys, i was actually looking for ones that were supposedly made in the 80's. i have looked at all these newer ones but they don't interest me at all. im starting to think that i was lied to though, because i cant find any good info on these things anywhere. but thanks for all of the replies, i guess my search for another project goes on.

During the '96 Olympics, BMW provided cars, motorcycles, and bicycles for the staff to ride around in/on. A place called Blue Moon Cycles ended up with some of the bikes, and were for sale for about $350. I said to my self, "Where would I get parts for a BMW bicycle in 10 years"? So I passed, and now own lots of Schwinns that parts are obtainable for. There was no info about who made the bicycles.

All the bicycles and motorcycles were returned to BMW after the Olympics, but some cars were "missing".

I think you can definitely exclude that they made "real" BMW bikes in the eighties. If there are such bikes, they must be labelled for marketing. Their 90ies ATB's are really nice and an exceptions since they really engineered the bikes or at least parts of it such as the Tele-Lever suspension. I have never seen a BMW bike in the 80ies and if there were some I should since a live close to Munich...
Although there was a famous frame builder named Altinger who build unique frames an always used original BMW paint.....so this is as close as you get but I doubt finding any Altingers in the U.S. since we hardly find them here.....

oh well, i knew it was too good to be true. i guess i will have to stick to the 88 325is track car me and my friend are building for the bmw, and know, reputable brands for my bikes.
