You build them yourself?

You can probably get away with the skinny tyres on a Moulton (with the suspension), but I got the feeling the RSW will need fatter ones.
And I don't think they are easily found.
Front wheel is an original, rear is the rim from a spare which which had a coaster brake hub laced into it, which I relaced with the SA hub (I think the hub might have been off a raleigh RSW or a similar model actually, they use the small size 16" wheels don't they? My dad turfed the raleigh though which is a bit of a shame). Still need to true it properly though :/

My dad's working on a moulton conversion right now using skinnier wheels, 1 1/4" rims, with a new 8 speed hub laced into the rear. I think the original rims are 1 3/4". Should be good once he's finished, but he's moving at a somewhat glacial pace

How does the RSW ride? I quite like the way the moulton rides, a bit of give in it but not too spongy, I imagine the RSW is pretty stiff though?

The RSW weighs around 40 pounds, so a slow leisurely pace is best!!
They were promoted as shoppers originally, so I can imagine it being very hard work with a load on the back too.

But it appeals to me as a period piece, and it is quite rare here since a lot were broken up for their 'Chopper' parts.
I'm watching an even rarer folder version on ebay tonight - finishing in less than an hour!!!

46 mins actually, so I'm getting out of here for now!

I've seen a period Sturmey Archer advert for a fixie three speed hub, but I think they weren't available for very long.

BTW I love your BSA ladies bicycle, - that's very nice indeed.
Here in NZ BSA owners seem to keep their bicycles for a very long time and when they turn up they tend to be very well worn.

Never realized those were that rare? They were made for more than one year (unlike the ebay claim) I have a 1968 Compact RSW in Bronze Green. It was one of several I bid on. I have seen them with Dyno hubs and lights, and I think one with a drum brake on the rear. Interesting little beasts.

Wee is the word! I had to special order a modern seat post just so I could ride it effectively (I am 6'-2" and I suspect the bike was built for a max height of 5'-11") The youngsters around the home place here love it. They call it my clown bike. It is a surprisingly spry bike for it's age and construction. No one will ever mistake it for a Brommie or a Moulton but at a fraction of the cost it is still fun.

It's called an ASC, Sheldon Brown has one and they're thinking about producing a new one in Taiwan.

https://sheldonbrown.com/asc.html

I've got on of the new Taiwan three speeds and I like it better than the old hubs (so far).

As far as I am concerned I think we "need" our own sub forum!

it's a 3 speed B/W unite hub(has the freewheel built into the hub like many modern cassett hubs only B/W did it in 1937)Bike's a 52 claud butler.Derailer is Cyclo(chain pull)
I also have a 36 russ tandem(4speed) with Cyclo twin wire shifter.

My word that's beautiful. The colour is surprisingly good too If I didn't have enough lightweights to work on already I'd love to hunt down a Carlton.

Dirtdrop,
That Carlton ought to be named Jezebel That is the general direction I am headed with my Dawes Galaxy frameset. I have an FG hub for the rear. Just need to get some other projects out of the way and get moving. Most of the parts have been ordered/located.

Golly. There's something pornographic about that Carlton. It made my heart beat fast. I was ready to comment, then I saw that several other people had already had the same reaction. Funny.

Is that epoxy paint?

After 2 years of accumulating parts and 2 weeks of polishing rusty chrome and pitted aluminum, here's my latest, a 1957 Raleigh Record Ace Moderne. To the best of my knowledge, this was the last raceable production bike available with an internally geared hub. Though I imagine most racers went for the extra cost 5 speed Cyclo Benelux deraileur option.

FM hub w/22t cog - Williams C1200 crank with smaller than usual 44t ring - Original Raleigh pedals
(Thanks to Pete Paine for finding the hub and ring for me.)

B.H. Airlite front hub - Brooks B15.

The 23" frame only weighs 4 lbs 3 oz, and is aligned perfectly. The whole bike as shown, with steel cranks, rear hub, seatpost, stem and bars weighs 26 lbs.

That's your pulley wheel, but I used a new clamp. I chucked the wheel in my drill press and polished it, but not so much as to remove all of the patina. A piece of Carbon fiber tubing with an arrow nock glued to the end made a perfect jam-fit arbor. I have a lot of broken carbon fiber tubes from my daughter's days as a competition dual line kite flyer.

Roll-Monroe-Co

It's a two-part automotive paint called Hot Rod Flatz. There is no clearcoat. I polished and waxed it to a satin finish after it dried. It's highly toxic and shouldn't be applied without a fresh air breathing system. system.
Pornographic? That's disturbing!

MnHPVA Guy

The RRA is just awesome! It's what my Carlton only pretends to be.

How about a lime green Caprice?

How about a lime green Caprice? 1983 3 speed and with the carrying capacity makes a cool shopper or town/utility bicycle.

The loop frame gives it a little style, but build quality isn't very good.
