I now have three bikes in this thread and, if I may be completely honest, I couldn't be happier about it. "Retro roadies" to me represent the best of both worlds, old and new. Yes, I've jumped the shark. No, I'm not going back to DTs :D

Not a rebuilt, but original steel frame on Campy Record 1st-generation Ergopower brifters.
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...pslzm7ofmu.jpg The only differences from original in that photo (taken last week) are the wheels and tires (replaced tubulars with clinchers in 2007), bar tape, bottle cages and a new Phil Wood bottom bracket when the original wore out (2009). I still ride it, on average 2-3 times a month. |

Thanks for these pics! My PX10 is second in line for a refinish, and I was curious what it might look like.
Was this paint or powder coat? Very nice. |
1 Attachment(s)
My 92 Miyata 914 upgraded with STI, bladed wheels, new bar tape, and tires. Had to stretch the frame to fit the 8 speed cassette as I wanted to stay with the old 105 derailleur, but be capable of upgrading to a 10 speed setup in the future.

Looks like your downtube cable stops are flip-flopped.
OK, I'm first super impressed with your eagle eye.....It never crossed my mind that the adjusters should be hanging down. I never had a bike with this setup. So in my excitement to get it built, I just threw them on and never thought about it. But I just looked at the photo and noticed that if they were installed correctly, the cable would not be running right across the Miyata logo. I will get that fixed soon. WOW :thumb: |

I will get that fixed soon. WOW :thumb: Anyway, nice bike! I'm obsessed with Miyatas from that period. I have both a 1989 Team and 1400. I'm always on the lookout for another one since the geometry of these fit me perfectly. Looks like yours is my size too. If you ever decide to get rid of it... |
I have a late '80s Miyata road bike, forget the model, but it has a 7-speed indexed Dura-Ace group with downtube shifters. I "loaned" it to my son a few years ago but I haven't seen much of it since. He just loves the thing :)

Here is my 1988 Raleigh Technium 400 with a few updates. I changed the rear derailleur to an NOS RSX short cage and I installed longer cranks.

Just got done with this, need suggestions on tires to run. Skinwalls? Hrmmmmmmm.... For reference, these 28's do NOT fit without deflating first. They run into the seat tube before they can slot into the dropouts.

http://i.imgur.com/2D55PPXh.jpg Is the fit issue the only complaint you have with the tires, or are you concerned about having too much black? I have the latter concern with my Buenos Aires, which has all black 5700-series 105 components. I feel like the hatched sidewall of the Continental GP 4 Seasons I'm running helps a little, but just a little. I feel like your bike is really pulling off the mix of modern and retro and skinwalls might disrupt the balance a bit. I think you should just embrace the blackness. Or maybe something like a Michelin Pro4 with a blue stripe to pick up the minor color from the frame. |
1982 Raleigh model 531 (frameset only back-of-catalog offering) - 25.5" - "Full feature" Veloce 9s Ergos (3-4 downshifts, full cassette upshifts--essentially Chorus internals) and RD. Comp Triple crank, Centaur brakes, Racing T FD, (shiny) Record hubs to Open Pros, stock 600EX headset, Brooks B17 on 27.0 Campy seatpost. Whippy and thus very comfortable.
https://photos.smugmug.com/The-Riddl.../i-dZRQ6dP.jpg 1985 Schwinn Peloton sporting her fourth component set in my possession. 10s Record Ergo (with Chorus lever blades...), Chorus carbon RD, FSA Carbon Team Issue triple crankset (because we can't be too serious here), Centaur triple FD, decently light-ish Origin8/Alexrim A19 wheels (1800g or so), MOst brakes, Cadence carbon seatpost, Fizik Arione VS saddle. The wide bars/short stem setup steers wonderfully (hands just behind front axle). Fast yet also tingly smooth. https://photos.smugmug.com/The-Riddl.../i-38jQm3N.jpg (apologies for the linking necessity, trying to re-figure out a proper attachment/embedding of an image. Ugh) EDIT/UPDATE: We're gettting it!! MauriceMoss posted the embedded images after I originally posted links to the photos. Big thanks to him--I think I've got it. |

A little update on the RX100-equipped bike I mentioned earlier. The Veloce 2x10 brifters worked fine to shift the rear... but it did work better in the low gears and wouldn't settle on high ones, until I adjusted it a bit. Seems like the error in click size is tolerable at 7-speed but probably works better at 8-speed.
At the front, it turned out the owner had earlier bent open the cage of the FD to fix a perceived problem with chain rub, which sort of ruins any notion of getting the indexing to work properly. I'd also bought a Veloce FD in case of trouble, but the clamp was one tube size too big. But as I mentioned the number of clicks available from the brifter will always give you somewhere to put the FD. I just wish it were perfect. |

ratfink and MauriceMoss, thank you!! [And I swear I tried all the ways I could to embed the photos, but couldn't. It was late at night, but you are the man, MM, for properly posting them. I will get it right.]
And to so many others in this thread, your bikes are mouth-wateringly beautiful. Oh man, absolutely inspirational (not sure if my wallet will think so...) EDIT: Got it right, and it is now fixed above (with proper credit assigned to him and to Dfrost (private messaging)). Will be posting a good picture of my big Cannondale, hopefully this weekend--get some Shimano representation as the Campy grouppo'd bikes have been more recent builds. |

You could also look into Deda Murex/Piega stem and handlebars if you're looking for a 26m compact...

Very very nice with an interesting color match with your Ultegra group

That Moser is awesome.
http://www.pedalroom.com/p/merckx-mx-leader-29250_1.jpg Ordered a 6800 group for this yesterday. Just need to decide on wheels and cockpit. |
