Along with some of the other suggestions, consider the Deda bars with RHM (Rapid Hand Movement) spec. That's what I have on my bike in this thread, and I really like the short reach to the drops. |

May have put these here already but not sure so what the heck. Both came to me already "upgraded", it's all good, would have bought them either way. Pretty sure they were done by the same guru who actually worked for Merz at some point.

I have a 91 Ochsner steel, 126mm steel bike. Original 6 speed 105 with Mavic MA2 wheels. I am now using 9 speed Rigida wheel with 130 spacing and I have not done the cold setting to the frame. It is pretty easy to spread the stays apart by hand to get the wheel on and off. It is the bike I use for just jumping on and riding. The only issue that has been a bit bothersome is that the QRs have to be tightened really tight or the axle will slip in the drops and cause me to stop to reset it. Since I have been using more force on the QRs it has not been a problem. I have seen no issues, as of yet, from that. |
I've never cold set a frame. Dozens of 126 frames to 130 wheelsets, and only a couple of skinned knuckles, knock on wood. Once you've done a rear wheels swap a few times, it's pretty straightforward. Lift and separate. I think I saw that on TV when I was younger.
