Sorry, but I don't have any before pictures. This project started as a Raleigh 10 speed mixte in a sorry state; rusty rims, seatpost, and chain. I had it powder coated, built up a 27" 3 speed wheelset, ordered bars, stem, seatpost, and saddle and made Mom smile with her birthday present!

It's somewhat vintage so I'll post it here. My goal was a budget cyclocross race bike. It started out as an '85 Nishiki Riviera GT touring frame that was in terrible shape paint wise. I still have some minor adjustments to make, but it's pretty much done. I also plan on switching to canti brakes. Oh, and it came in at $275 as it sits so not too bad.

I wish I had something like that for the winter! I assume the cyclone setup is a nod to the warmer months ahead? New goal for the year... work on finding a better winter bike (but not too nice)

This bike looks pretty slick, well done! What is the advantage of switching to cantilever brakes?

Thanks, it's definitely been a fun project. Probably no advantage to what's on there as far as braking goes. I mainly just like the look of cantis on cross bikes. Well that and I'm actually borrowing the V-brakes for the time being from my mountain bike.

I found another Kuwahara to serve as my winter bike... it is an '88 Shasta which is also a hand built lugged frame on Ishiwata triple butted tubes. Just because I ride in thre winter does not mean I will put up with riding a beater as winter is already hard enough.
The Shasta was a model down from the Cascade which was their top of the line model and as such, not nearly as common.
My Cascade used to look almost identical to the Shasta which inherited some of her old parts.

Very nice, that's exactly what a Sports should look like.
Does it fit you tolerably well? I thought you needed a bigger frame generally, and with this style of bike you'd want an even bigger one?

No, it is too small for me. It is not enjoyable for me to ride so I am going to sell it. I wasn't sure when I bought it, but there is just no way. Still, I am glad that I fixed it up.

I don't have any decent "before" pics of this one, but here's the "after" shots of a Panasonic Sport 500 I've had for a few years. I recently cleaned it up for a friend and found that I'd scavenged some parts from it for other bikes, so I had to dip into the parts bin for the stem, bars, levers, and the nifty Thun Coranado cranks.
Should be a reliable and economical ride.
