Wow , I don't feel so bad now, after reading about you guys . I've been at it a month and I have 9 complete and 1 parts bike. Always looking for the next one. Bought 2 this morning at yard sales . I'm finding it's hard to walk away from an almost new looking bike for less than $20 . LOL . kirby

My bikes:
73 Schwinn Paramount P13
76 Schwinn Paramount P14
80 Viner Professional Track
00 GT GTB track bike
Tom Teesdale Track bike
85 Eddy Merckx Corsa
83 Nishiki Seral
84' Schwinn Le tour fixed conversion polo bike
86' Schwinn Peloton fixed gear conversion
Surly Karate Monkey SS 29er MTB
00ish? Van Dessel Buzz Bomb fixed gear 29er MTB
06? Van Dessel Buzz Bomb Full suspenion geared 29er MTB
That is a total of 12 rides for myself. There are two retired frames I keep around just because and maybe one or two more I might eventually build up. But, then there are the flippers. (runs and counts) I have another 35 bikes or frames/forks in various states of disrepair waiting for me to finish them or find a new home for them. Not to mention drawers, bins, and boxes full of parts removed from bikes as well.

I'm down to 43 bikes and one frame. With any luck tcpasley will buy the frame this weekend and I'll only have the 43 bikes. My son has one out at ECU but I'm not counting that one.
RobbieTunes may come over this weekend so he can verify the count. There is no doubt it's out of control, but I'm trying to get it down to a managable 20 bikes. I don't think I need more than 20. Do you think I need more than 20?

This is one I have mixed feelings about. On the one hand, I love the unique characteristics and sometimes subtle differences between various bikes. There are still a few more out there that I'd love to have in my collection. On the other hand, I feel that there's value in simplicity, and I don't feel I'm following the Buddhist teachings (the Buddha taught that suffering comes from desire. Or, if you don't follow the Buddha, Jesus taught that the way to heaven is to sell all you have, give the money to the poor, and follow him) I'm trying to follow when I've got more bikes than I need. There's a tension in my life between appreciating vintage bikes, and wanting to keep it simple.
That said, I've got 15 bikes in the stable, and there a few more out there in the world that I'd buy if and when I find them and I have the cash in hand. And lately, I've taken to buying bikes for Ms. Blue Order, especially when I find a matching "hers" version of one of my bikes. Every one of these bikes needs to be built up. Currently, I'm riding the mountain bike, a GT Karakoram that was hanging unused in a suburban garage in pristine condition for a decade or more, and which I bought for $50. Ms. Blue Order's hybrid-- a Bianchi Boardwalk mixte that is the same year, color, and graphics as my Bianchi Project 7-- is currently being serviced, to be followed by my matching Project 7. Then I start on one of her Fuji mixtes, and one of my other bikes....on down the line, until they're all built and road-ready.
So, without further ado....
Randonneurs: 2, one diamond frame, one mixte (his & hers)
Porteurs: 2, one diamond frame, one mixte (his & hers)
Tourers: 2 diamond frame (his & hers)
29er: 1 (his)
Hybrid: 1 mixte (hers)
Tourer/commuter: 1
Winter commuter: 1
City bike: 1 mixte
Sport tourers: 1 diamond frame, 1 mixte (his & hers)
Fixie bait: 1
Mountain bike: 1

From: My response would have been something along the lines of: "Does your bike have computer controlled suspension? Then shut your piehole, this baby is from the future!"
Bikes: to many to list
I had 35 at one point last year, but have sold most of them off

I have caught the disease. There are an even 20 bikes in here, which makes me glad to say that I have a nice enough rental place that I can have this great basement/shop. But unless there's a real emotional attachment, it is nice to rotate stock to insure freshness, and it also pays for the collection to turn a few over.
Which, to my fellow bike hoarders I say this:
There are many youth mentoring organizations around the US that you can give bikes to, which they in turn give to kids. If you are at yard sales and there are freebies in small sizes, figure out who takes them in your area and places them, and get them to good homes! I always say to someone if I am not interested in paying for their bike, the name of the organization that accepts them in my area if they don't sell it. The small amount of effort that it takes to lube up a chain and maybe clean it off, minor adjustments, and use some of your old backup tires, or maybe just a patch job will be much appreciated to a kid who gets a bike who might not afford it otherwise. Makes you feel really good, and gets the aquisition karma in your favor.
Here's what's on the junk pile:
Le tour 12.2 from the 70s
82 le tour III SS
Zinn roadie
87 Pinarello Montello
75 Raleigh Gran Sport
70s raleigh roadie
80s Raleigh Mixte?
Giant yukon from neighbors trash
70s Fuji SPecial Road Racer
70s Schwinn Traveler, or collegiate not sure, just got it
94 Kestrel I think is cracked
60s or so schwinn coaster brake townie
Fiance's Geared MTB townie
schwinn moab mtb
Trek mtb to donate when I get the fork straightened
Banke steel frame 69 c-c, needs fork!
76 schwinn 3 spd breeze?
Friend's townie
Fiance's stumpjumper
Fiancee's custom steel roadie
Great thing about my fiancee is that she has 4 bikes of her own, so she can't get too mad.

Bikes: one of each
33 when I last counted.
2 for each big girl
2 trikes for the toddler
2 for the honey
4 dumpster bikes that I haven't gotten around to parting out yet.
11 raleighs
3 mountain bikes (4 if you count the 1950 schwinn DX)
3 or 4 on CL that I don't pay much attention to any more
2 homebuilt recumbants
1 allegro special
several others.
Taking the trash to the dump tomorrow. That usually changes the total.
