The Raleigh is interesting, though...it's a 753 Technium or something like that...so, I guess before someone added flat bars & goofy grip shifters & then the frame broke it was a nice bike.

25 bux with broken shifters but pretty nice everything else. Full Shimano Mountain LX componentry.

Thinking I'll convert it to drop bars and some 9 speed STI's....

I ran across an early-90's Trek 830 Antelope w/ double butted chromoly, Biopace cranks, and other good'ns while picking up a pair of '72 Raleigh Sports for two married friends. I may just run back over to the house and pick up that trek - I was thinking the same thing about drop bars. May just try and turn it into a Cyclocross beater.

The frame has its share of rusty scratches but fortunately no dings. It evidently had been sitting outside for some time given the tree seeds/cobwebs/leaves entangled in every nook and cranny. Fortunately the PO had filled the stem and seatpost with tons of grease making them very easy to remove - YAY!!

The size is decieving. The seat tube measures 17.5" CTC, but the top tobe rings in around 22.25" CTC - just right for me based on my experiences with other bikes. We'll see how it fits once I'm actually able to swing a leg and take it for a ride.

rhm- the Raleigh is a 23". I'm thinking about flipping it, but I want the rear hub, rims and shifter to complete the Hercules Renoun I picked up off CL a few months back. I may take a ride up to Copake on the 16th. If I find the parts there, I'll flip it.

IIRC, all the "Techniums" were built in the USA (Kent, WA) and used Aluminum seat stays and chain stays bonded to a chrome-moly main frame. I don't think Raleigh USA was ever certified to use 753 tubing.

I haven't finished reading this (and linked PDF), but it seems to indicate 753 Techniums.

The bonded Aluminum Techniums came out in 1986. Raleigh USA marketed the Technium trademark first in '85 with Reynolds 753 tubed frames.
A shame the one above got trashed.

I checked out a few garage sales after work this afternoon and got excited when I saw a bunch of bikes leaned up against a garage. All but this one were "Huffurrays." It looks to be an '86 World Sport. My size too, but it will probably end up getting flipped.

Picked up today for $100. Imagine a bicycle made in the worst way (out of steel pressings, bolted together) - now imagine it has a motor attached to it (over the front wheel for some reason).

I picked this univega sporttour mixte up the other day. it came in very good condition, and the price was good considering the region and season.

the serial number on the frame is I167379. I can't seem to relocate the page I had for decoding univega serial numbers. does anyone know what the year might be based on that serial? if I had to guess I'd say 79-82.

what exactly is this peg for? it's only on the drive side. I've seen it on bikes before, but never with anything attached to it. I'll make a wild guess that it's a chain rest.
