Bikes: Early 90's Pinarello Gavia, '84 Guerciotti, '91 GF Hoo Koo e Koo, '88 Giant Iguana, '09 Specialized XC

$7 at the local thrift, no cleats but otherwise great. Snagged a quick $40 on the ebay.

Aluminum Easton aero profile tubing and custom made in Colorado. Fairly aggressive geometry and 56cm. Less than 1000 miles on it. Just has shop wear. It needs to go. It's about a 2001 model, and the frameset was purchased new by the original owner.

if it wasn't for the hideous (though era-common) flat downtube I woulda been all over that if I needed something!

Whats the black and yellow thing beside it? looks like an old cannondale; Big tubes + top tube cable guides!

It's really not hideous. The yellow/black is a Cannondale frame.

Bikes: 84 Raleigh Technium- 89 Shogun Mt. Bike-96 Miyata 914

My latest score.
Picked up this Scott M-16 Vantage at the dump recycling center for a whopping $5.00.
Overhauled with tires I'm into it for about $75.

Man! This took some elbow grease. But, I managed to turn this $7 dump find into, what I'd consider, a reliable bike ride. The frame took a lot of work, but the wheels were an absolute grind. Shifts & brakes nicely. Hubs & BB reconditioned and adjusted well. The only thing I added was a decent chain I had and replaced the broken FD with one I found on donor bike. After this, I'm wondering why any bike 'has' to go to the dump.

well i think some bikes should go to the dump (well, recycler) but the better ones should definitely be given new life

people are just used to throwing things out when they break. everything today is just a consumable.. I mean on ipods and iphones there isn't even an easy way to replace the battery!

just picked this up for $80

I am selling my road bike because I do not use it. It is a Schwinn 21" frame. 12 speed. It has new paint (3 color, color change paint), new brake pads, new brake cables, rear derailer cable, new tires and tubes, new corck handle bar wrap, and all bearings are greased with synthetic grease. Shimano 600 components. It just needs a front derailer and cable to be complete (about $30)- I never got around to installing it as I only road it 2 times before I decided that I would just stick to mountain bikes. And the rear wheel needs to be straightened. The extras: 2 tubes, 1 front wheel (bare), 1 rear wheel (with everything). All the new parts are over $100. I'm just looking to recoupe some of the money I put into this. So shoot me an offer.
wish he handn't painted it.. at least he had sense to leave the tubing sticker, but not enough sense to paint around the sticker right! other than that the paint job isnt too bad. i might just mask off the unpainted section and paint it black or something

the main thing that i'm excited about though are the shimano 600 EX brake calipers and shimano 600 EX aero style levers. I didn't even know they made EX aero style levers, but i wanted to put them on my ironman build. it also came with shimano 600 hubs so those will go on my bike too lol. weirdly it has shimano 105 shift levers.

the other wheelset looks pretty pimp and worth the $80 alone!

yeah if he had just painted around the sticker it woudn't look too bad. it needs a clear coat though.. it's just a cheap paint job from an autobody place i think, it's already got nicks and scratches in it. the bare steel needs some kind of protectant to keep it from rusting too

edit:

based on the gruppo and year, it seems to be an 1987 Super Sport. With biopace chainrings too! I didn't notice that until i was looking at the catalog. they are pretty chewed up though so i might not use them. It was pink and white before Realestvin! pure Miami Vice!

the other wheelset is Mavic CXP-22 laced to shimano 105 hubs.. pretty happy with this score overall

Bummer that the pink & white paint scheme is gone, that's one of my favorites. The new paint is pretty rad though...

No bike should go to a dump. Never.

Some of them should go to a proper bike recycling facility and be stripped of decent parts/wheels/components -but never just taken to a dump. Even a department store BSO might have a couple decent parts on it. Recently I've been collecting a few wheels to disassemble carefully in order to teach a small wheel-building class.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle -in fact, NOTHING should go to a dump. We are burying, with great expense, resources that our descendent's will wish they had. I guess at the very least they will know where to dig...

Either that or those are 24" tires! It sure looks big. That saddle also looks like an veritable hatchet with a more upright riding position.

Yeah, 34.5" standover height is the tallest MTB that I've seen as well. I normally ride road or touring bikes that should be too big for me because I have long legs for my height. I can ride this bike the way it is set-up, but I must admit, my boys start to pucker when I hike my leg over.

Yea i hear ya, i mainly deal with road bikes and whatnot, sometimes i get the odd mountain bike, when i get bikes that i can't work with cause they're in such bad shape or just something that i don't deal with, what i do is take them down to this place called CBN (community bike network) here in toronto, which is pretty much the local bike Co-op. these guys fix and make bikes workable to resell for a decent price.

plus they have alot of extra parts and stuff so i go digging for goodies when i'm there.

also if they can't use the bike that you donate to them then they have a scrap metal guy who picks up junk so they can recycle it, hopefully it will be recycled into another bike!!!

Another Ironman. An early version with a 1984 build date(early 85 model?). It is equipped with a Shimano 600 group(not Tri-color).The huge Mill Creek spring garage sales are happening today, so I hopped on my PSV 10 and made a short tour until finding this.
