picked this up the other day for fun. Hope to get my 3 year old on it this summer after some more training wheel time. My daughters and wife giggle when I ride it too. Kinda fun.

One of those was on CL here, but they wanted $50.
I bet that suspension really helps when your jumping curbs with it.

Straight across trade... 1980ish Motobecane Super Mirage in pretty nice condition

I was told it's a '78. Reynolds stickers are not so readable. Serial appears to be 4F8G19. Anyone have any thoughts on year/model?

Looks like you'd get pedal-strike riding in a straight line if you weighted over 143lbs with that suspension compressing just an inch or so.

toytech 06-03-11 03:37 PM

I just picked up this really small Miyata 1200, it was included with a Park PRS-3 work stand!

Looks even better cleaned up, just needs brake levers and tape!

rekmeyata 06-03-11 06:59 PM

That's a great find, those Miyata's were the best bikes made in Japan back then, and the 1200 series was their top model besides the Team.

You said too small, it doesn't fit you? Are you going to turn it? I only buy a bike if it fits otherwise I pass and let someone else who might need it get it.

frantik 06-03-11 08:41 PM

^ sounds like it was included with another purchase

toytech 06-03-11 10:04 PM

Regardless of what I may or may not have paid, it will be gone through to ensure it is at it's best then I will sell or trade it to feed my bike habit. It almost fits my wife, just a little too big (she rides a 43cm and loves her Panasonic dx300 anyway). It looks even better cleaned up.

ahh too bad about the one lever :(.. gran compe?

toytech 06-03-11 10:59 PM

both are gran compe and rashed, one is terminal. I have a set of drilled levers that are close, so I will probably use them. The fenders may end up on my Miyata tourer too.

Besides the RB-1 that has it's own thread...
http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...fiat/rb1-1.jpg

I had a prolific week. I owned this bike for about 20 hours (needed brakes adjusted and a cable bolt for the rear derailleur)...

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...6-02162231.jpg

an '80s Schwinn 5 speed cruiser..perfect for the beach, which was where I owned it for those 20 hours....

and I also picked up this sweet Trek 400 tuned with new tires...a bit too small so it will find a good home I'm sure...

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...6-04175552.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...6-04175614.jpg

and a few weeks ago, this was a helluva find...this is the rack like you see on a lot of transit busses, but it's set up to fit in a receiver hitch. I had to drill a new hole so it would fit properly around my bumper but this thing is excellent (at least when you are already driving a behemoth like a Suburban)...$15 at an estate sale..

...and, an action shot...

One of the best looking non-high end bicycles I think.

Thinking of turning this into either a velo-cheapo build, fixed gear conversion, or my parts display:

Not nearly as sweet as Veloh's Raleigh but when I got home discovered that the bike faerie left me a little present... aside from a few little scuffs the bike appears to have been un-ridden and kept in storage for the past 30 or so years.

http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...ighrecord1.JPG

The stem shifters lasted all of 10 minutes and the wheels needed a little tensioning.

All it needs now is a new home... hubs are smooth as silk and the steel rando bars are quite nice... will re-wrap those in cork today.

monsterpile 06-04-11 11:50 PM

That bike rack is a killer deal I have no less than 3 friends who want a rack like that but are not willing to pay the $250+ to get one.

65er do you have a box of those Suntour powershifters stem shifters laying around? =) I only ask because it looks like that is what you took off that Raleigh. I love those things. I don't have them on any of my bikes, but there isn't a better stem shifter I have run across. I have used them on a couple of unique projects and they worked out beautifully.

That's a gorgeous Raleigh, I'd love to find one my size some day.

Just for fun & giggles, why don't you post this bike picture on the Singlespeed/Fixed Gear forum and see what reactions you get from the perfectionist SS dweebs. Probably somethings like: "chainline is all wrong" . . . "needs bullhorn bars" . . . "where's the front brake?" . . . "needs a better stem" . . ."is that a flip-flop hub?" :)

don't you know? brakes aren't cool on fixed gear ;)

and clearly we need a drive-side pic!

Send me your addy and I will forward you some of those stem shifters... the ones I pulled from the Raleigh are basically NOS and I have a bunch that are still packaged.

They do work beautifully.

I really did not need another bike but the fact it was chrome, Italian, was fitted with a right hand front brake, and was my size made this hard to resist even though it's an entry level bike with some entry level Campagnolo parts.

Valentino derailleurs... think I will replace these with some NR.

http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...entinorear.JPG

http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...ntinofront.JPG

Pretty lugs...

http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...adtubeside.JPG

http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...dtubefront.JPG

And the whole 9 yards...

http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...ottiparma1.JPG

The bike has a very nice ride (it has some pretty relaxed geometry) and is no lightweight... some 27 inch Nisi rims, a Stronglight 92, and some NR derailleurs should bring things down to an acceptable level and pretty the bike up.

The chrome is in very nice condition and all I had to do to make it ride-able was replace the crank cotters which came out very easily.

Time to bust out the polish...

realestvin7 06-05-11 03:06 PM

Such a neat ride, dude. Cool. ^^^

How you feeling btw?
