Bought 3 boxes of parts at a townwide garage sale day on Friday............included a Bernard Hinault Turbo saddle, set of Campy Strada crank arms, Schwinn pedal wrench, Vittoria Mondiale tubular tire, pair of Marresi track shoes, Golden Arrow RD, Raleigh branded crankset, Avocet cyclometer NIB and various other. They also had 4 bikes hanging in the garage, the lady told me that when her daughter decides which one she wants to keep, the others will go. I left my name, phone number, drivers license, first born child and all the jewelry I was wearing to hold them for me. They included a Dura Ace equipped Basso and a Club Fuji.

One of my better pickups this year, an early 1990s Cannondale R300. All RX100 components, seven speed cassette. I've torn it down, typical of cartridge bb bikes I find, it needed a new BB. Way too big for me. I've got two Cannondales on the rack right now, this R300, and a red 1989 SR400.

Bikes: N + 1

terrible pictures mostly, but here's my catch today....free stuff from a friend who was cleaning out the garage. some will be morphed together to build bikes, some will just continue to donate spares & then be recycled...

Raleigh Record frame/fork...Raleigh USA, so I presume the BB is "normal"..

Western Flyer road bike with a rear disc brake....has got to be pushing 50lbs...funny..

and the brake..

Schwinn Pixie that may clean up for a nephew to ride...and half a 5 speed Schwinn Collegiate...

BCA (Bicycle Corporation of America) Azzuri...what is this? besides what's missing it's in perfect looking shape and the frame is a nice lugged frame in Tange 5, uses a 3 piece crank..not traditionally "American" I would think..

Plus a Next MTB bike (rear triangle donor for someone's DIY extracycle and maybe running gear to make the Raleigh a townie), a spray painted BMX my son may enjoy thrashing around on, and an array of 26" and 27" wheels + one of those floor-to-ceiling 2 bike hanger deals.... Nothing too exciting, but all for free so no complaints..

not sure what this is aside from an early tiny Trek, but it was $40 on ebay, local pick up.

yes, I believe that's what it is for. My guess is it was to make it easier to carry up the really steep hills in the early MTB days, in order to bomb down them. Maybe for structural integrity as well? Here's an example of an amazing vintage Gitane cyclocross bike with a similar design: (not mine)

Sold quite a few of those when I ran a bike shop in the early 80's. They are actually a very nice riding cromo frame and all around well built bike.

Haven't had a chance to get on here lately, it's been a busy bike season!

Here are a few recent finds.....

Blue 1980-81 Trek 412 in really nice shape! Needed cleaned up badly, but was a quick sale. Got it at the Goodwill for $80

I also Picked up this 1983 Trek 620 out of some guys shed yesterday. He just had a picture of a bunch of bikes, mostly Magna and Huffy bikes, but I could see the saddle of this one sticking out and called him. Asked him about it and he said "It says T-R-E-K on it." I offered him $40, more than the guy was expecting, and raced to his house. I got there within minutes of another local bike flipper and snagged it first. Ha! I high tailed it outta there before the other guy could offer more than me.

It's beautiful and didn't need much, was pretty clean to begin with.

Dump Find

Was at the dump a month or two ago and saw green old bike as far as I knew, kinda unique.Turned out to be a 72 Raleigh sport, I've only got one pic so far and I'm having trouble uploading it atm. Everything was on this bike with the exception of the chainguard, the rear fender was missing one stay. The tires were shot, and most of the bearings had to be replaced when the hubs/races were serviced but otherwise it held up in great shape. The paint's a bit battered, but I left it and shined it just a little bit to keep it looking weathered.

I did get this old Jeunet from the Dump but I forgot I had the darn thing. While searching for some Selectra cranks, I ran across some interesting things in The Old Shed. In addition to the Jeunet, there is an old Flandria out there that I forgot all about also. Anyway, the Jeunet...

I love it when I find stuff I forgot I had;-)

A friend's catch of the day was a 1987 Prologue with tons of potential. This one is going to be a keeper. As found:

Yep, the bars are hideous, though they were surprisingly comfy. I'm pretty sure he's going to ditch them. This one didn't come from craigslist, but we still have some good deals here. I try not to look.

Another regurgitation from the Dump, that came my way this morning. And the bike, a Steve Bauer Scirocco, is very original, little used and in excellent condition. Too bad I wasn't a bit shorter. At 47cm, the bike and I will never be great budds.

Bikes: 1940s Fothergill, 1959 Allegro Special, 1963? Claud Butler Olympic Sprint, Lambert 'Clubman', 1974 Fuji "the Ace", 1976 Holdsworth 650b conversion rando bike, 1983 Trek 720 tourer, 1984 Counterpoint Opus II, 1993 Basso Gap, 2010 Downtube 8h, and...

I pulled these two from my favorite dumpster yesterday:

25" Motobecane, badly bent fork. I took the little mileage ticker off, and put it on my Lambert.
19" Blue Gitane, I suspect it's made in Japan. Front wheel is not original. I took the black Bluemels Lightweight fenders off; I know someone who want's 'em.

If anyone wants to collect these from me in zip 08648, do let me know. Otherwise I'll swap most of the Motobecane's parts onto a step-through Nishiki, refurb the Gitane, and try to sell them in the fall.

Gawd, I wish the dumpsters by me were like that!
That appears to be a mid 70's Moto Grand Touring just like mine -(and in about the same condition as when I found it).

- I hope someone grabs it. (Straightening a fork like that is not all that difficult).

Bikes: 1989 Dahon Stainless Classic III Folder - 1990 Dahon Mariner Classic III Folder - 2005 Dahon Jetstream P8 Full Suspension Folder

Picked up this Fuji Charleston cruiser for only $40. I mainly bought it for the Nexus 3 speed wheelset for a future rat rod build with an old school muscle bike stick shift that I have.
