thats one crazy looking bar

all the deals have dried up on my cl :'(

Chris_in_Miami 06-14-11 06:43 PM

Yep, the bars are hideous, though they were surprisingly comfy. I'm pretty sure he's going to ditch them. This one didn't come from craigslist, but we still have some good deals here. I try not to look.

Another regurgitation from the Dump, that came my way this morning. And the bike, a Steve Bauer Scirocco, is very original, little used and in excellent condition. Too bad I wasn't a bit shorter. At 47cm, the bike and I will never be great budds.

I pulled these two from my favorite dumpster yesterday:

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5068/...278133b6_b.jpg

25" Motobecane, badly bent fork. I took the little mileage ticker off, and put it on my Lambert.
19" Blue Gitane, I suspect it's made in Japan. Front wheel is not original. I took the black Bluemels Lightweight fenders off; I know someone who want's 'em.

If anyone wants to collect these from me in zip 08648, do let me know. Otherwise I'll swap most of the Motobecane's parts onto a step-through Nishiki, refurb the Gitane, and try to sell them in the fall.

Gawd, I wish the dumpsters by me were like that!
That appears to be a mid 70's Moto Grand Touring just like mine -(and in about the same condition as when I found it).

- I hope someone grabs it. (Straightening a fork like that is not all that difficult).

Picked up this Fuji Charleston cruiser for only $40. I mainly bought it for the Nexus 3 speed wheelset for a future rat rod build with an old school muscle bike stick shift that I have.

Along with the Fuji cruiser, I picked up this Raleigh Gruv 2.0. Cool look and feel to this bike. It will be a quick flip. Very much link a Townie with the crank forward design.

Saved from the scrap metal pile during this spring's city wide cleanup. Very minor surface rust, original, complete, and in perfect working order. All it got after this picture was a new front tire, new tubes, and new grips (the old ones were cracked and hard as rock). I believe this is a 1990 Schwinn Caliente.

Great Prologue. My all time favorite right now in my keeper fleet is my 1987 Prologue. I currently have it set up with 7700 series DA.

I picked up a mountain bike, on the small end of the sizing that fits me.

This picture is after I spent about an hour heating up and pealing about 30 pieces of reflective tape....

Total spent on everything listed was $110.

I already sold Scroll saw for $150 (I paid $20 for it).

Picked up this Motobecane Grand Touring at a garage sale today. It's on the large size for me, but not too bad. I think it will clean up pretty well. Love the faux leather handlebar grips.

Standalone 06-18-11 05:28 PM

This Univega "Maxima Sport" is about as heinous as it gets, but I've been playing around with some different rust removal techniques (never really tried to bring anything back before) on it before tending to some spots on my Panasonic and renewing my Trek frames. Z204 Shimano.

The RD is burnt toast. I'll dig something up, throw an old chain on it and an old freewheel and maybe sell it to a college kid for $20. I might keep the wheels and throw some 5 speed steelies on it if I'm going to sell it for that cheap. Or whatever.

Edit:
I also picked this up today:

http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...e/DSC06468.jpg

http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...e/DSC06466.jpg

Came with everything but pedals, saddle, one chainring bolt and the rear brake and aero lever. Paid $50.

My fave catch from the lbs trash can, shimano sti shifters, rsx variant, of course they are gummed up, so challenge accepted to get em going again. Second time I pull a set out of the trash, last time they were 600s.

Don't be, I paid entirely too much for it....

There is a nice bonus that came home with it though.

Finally finished cleaning up one catch of the day... this one came pretty close to being tossed in a dumpster about a year ago.

Makes one wonder what goes through people's heads...

Another reason why.... you should always ask the seller if they have any other bike related items they would like to part with.

After I paid for the bike, I asked. She said "Well, I have this old bike that I used to ride on my indoor trainer. I had some upgrades done about 8 years ago(9 speed Ultegra STI drivetrain)". She brought it out.... I ended paying the same price for it as I paid for the MB-1

For an MB-1? It doesn't exactly sell for the same amount as any ordinary mountain bike.

I understand this. I usually pay about $25-30 for an old MTB. This one was quite a bit more

Thanks. I usually do ask the sellers if they have anything else for sell.

Thanks. My older brother has one that he bought new in 92, I've always liked his, but haven't found one in my size yet(62 or bigger). This is a 58 and too small, but still a pretty nice ride. I Like the neon/splatter paint look though.

Y'know, as much as I hate the looks of Shimano STI levers, they sure do shift nicely....
