Well, I had my best garage sale weekend in several years, while on vacation. So the van is now loaded, way loaded.

Pretty much any time I go on vacation with the car, I bring home bikes. Some of my best scores have been outside my area, on vacation.

Picked up a nice late 1980s Panasonic DX2000, a 1984 Schwinn LeTour Luxe, a Masi Gran Corsa, and a bike workstand. Then later I added a Raleigh mixte to the load. This is on top of the three bikes I brought along to do some riding, along with luggage, etc.

The Masi has unusual (at least to me) Bullseye cartridge hubs. The hubs are even color matched to the bike. It has mostly tricolor components, with a couple of Campy parts in the mix. Bike definitely needs major TLC. Naturally, the stem is stuck on it (a nice TTT, hopefully I can save it). All of the rest of the seat posts and stems are freed up and cooperating well.

The Panasonic was in the best shape. Please ignore the oddball angles on the handlebars. I was in the process of changing the orientation of all bars so I could squeeze seven bikes in the car. All bikes came with pedals, they were all removed to allow for loading as well.

FWIW: All the bikes were picked up at noon or later, so the local scoopers had plenty of time to bag all of them. Not sure why these bikes were still around. The Panasonic was even listed in the garage sale ad: "lightweight Panasonic racing bike", and it was marked with a very attractive price. I went back to the same town the next day (I was short of time), and that's when I bagged the MASI and bike stand....

Fantastic finds! I love the Masi! It looks great!

Out of curiosity, what else did you do on vacation? :) Your wife must be highly understanding. My wife would have no part of it. Thanks for all your advice and wisdom.

Them is some crazy vacation score action!!!

I have a set of Campy Omega wheels with Bullseye hubs similar to those on the Masi:

its a low level mid 80s schwinn world sport...i don't have a road bike in my stable, and its definitely my size... gonna rebuild it and see how it rides.. plus it came with a u-lock holder for the bike.. been needing one of those for my other ride.. sorry for the crappy cell phone pic... and i know its non drive side... oh well... had to ditch the sugino crank and bb.. the threads pulled out with my crank puller... diacompe brakes and suntour deraileurs, all covered with a protective coating of rust.. probably been hiding out in a shed for 25 years...

after a little research turns out its an 84.. with alloy rims... heres the link to the schwinn catalog

I usually hit garage sales, thrift stores and craigslist (in advance ) when im on vacation. I've brought home a few realy keepers ('71 Raleigh Pro, 91 Bridgestone RB-1, Merlin XL) + lots of spare parts from vacations.

I found this at a Goodwill today for thirty bucks in fairly decent condition next to two other shwinns, including a shwinn traveler. I have NO idea what it is and it's too tall for me, but my boyfriend (who is not as enthused as I am) can ride it. I did hop on to see how it rode and it's soooo nice, even with the fact I need to clean it up. I'm sad that I can't get on and off of it without tripping over the frame. I'm thinking of going back to get the shwinn with the step through frame I saw for a backup commuter tomorrow morning, but I also have bicycle parts to buy for my current bicycle.

I need to just figure out what model it is. :D

ETA: Wow, that's a bad picture. Sorry folks >.<

Went by the old shop in St. Johns today to pick up some old NOS I digged out on my last visit. After along chat with my pal Harold, he just gave it all to me. :)

NOS Suntour XC Pro rear derailleur and 7spd thumbies.

He had another RD without jockey wheels, and a bunch of FD's but they were all top pull. I might grab them off him down the road.

Also got this old school 80's trunk box.

...filled with junk.

But it does have a nice white Marinoni bottle cage. I'll be selling it.

Goodwill find.... 1970s Dawes Galaxy

Found this guy at a Goodwill. Best goodwill find ever! Currently in the process of taking everything apart and cleaning, regreasing, and overhauling everything. First time working with cottered cranksets, kinda a pain in the butt, too much filing!http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=253725 Too bad it doesn't fit me, I would love to keep it. It's a Dawes Galaxy, 1970s, Reynolds 531 tubing, Nervar Crankset, and Simplex Derailleurs. Gunna flip it to save up for a 53cm road bike. It came with a rear rack, generator light, and brooks saddle, but I got greedy and kept it for myself! :D Always fun to work on a bike that's almost 20 years older than me! Sorry for the crappy picture!

1988 Schwinn Circuit in 49cm.
Very cool bike. Somewhere, there is a short Schwinn enthusiast.

After last week's garage sale scores, I knew my bike karma was in for a hit (or I guess more accurately, a miss). I did find a few bike items.

First, I picked up a nice set of tricolor tubulars, with tires (no skewers..). I also picked up a couple of saddles, and SIX jerseys (including a nice Eddie Merckx).

Finally, I rescued a forlorn Jeunet, nothing special for sure, but I liked the chrome stays, the intact Mafac lever hoods, and the attractive price.

Like you said, it may not be top of the line, but your right, it's very cool looking. Find some inexpensive 27" aluminium rims and at least you'll get rid of the heavy chrome wheels slowing you down...but keep the chrome wheels so you have the original gear for it.

Yes, a Ross Mt Hood. I sold it last month.

Two bills for the Circuit? I hope that's a joke. That's the exact same year and size I fixed up for the gf. She likes it well enough, but doesn't understand the high end nature of it, even after I told her.,,,,BD

+1 Sante components alone have prety serious value, add a high end Columbus frame, and you have a really nice bike there. The only thing I would check is the fork. I know some Circuits came with color matched (painted forks). I am not sure on that particular year.

OK, did a quick check. The 1988 and 1989 Circuits came with a chrome fork and Sante components. Its a winner. The 1987 had a painted fork (and Suntour Sprint components).

Definitely. Just kidding around. Not to say that "Mini Me" isn't a schrewd businessman.

Early 70's Raleigh Carlton Competition -22.5" 531 Reynolds double-butted with the fancy lugs -early 70's model without the chrome on the chainstays.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Q...79_Chicago.jpg

Huret Jubilee derailleurs, TA crankset, Suntour shifters.

Straight and true, paint is a little rough -but should polish up nice.

$30

Nice score on that Carlton...

Salvaged a Sachs front drum hub for some future project...

I answered the call of CL late last night for a "Peugeot 10 speed old classic" $25. Had my hope up like most here that it'll turn out to be a PX-10. ;)
But it was only a U0-8 or something. Complete with bent fork. :) I picked it up anyway because it was my size, was in salvageable condition, and because it is a Peugeot! Yes, this place is viral with U0-8 addiction. Now I have joined the ranks among you. Resistance is futile. :D As for the fork, I'll try to bend the blades back a la C&V DIY creativity.

Seller threw in a large 91(?) Trek 8000 aluminum mtb for $25 to sweeten the deal. I couldn't resist....Deore DX goodness all over. Too big for me though.

Update:
I quick search reveals that I have a '82 U0-9. The high flange Normandy front hub was replaced with a Sovos small flange. Too bad.
There are some rust spots, and the decals are intact...will try to treat the spots and touch up as much as possible. Hate to lose the original decals.

Sounds like a good find Will, I have that old Peugeot I picked up from the police auction that I started taking parts off, maybe the fork from that will fit your bike. I will give you a call and we can check to see if it will fit. You know I want to see pictures of both.

On Sat I picked up two Specialized Rockhoppers that are in pretty good shape, one is a early model with a 22" frame & the other is all aluminum with a Rock Shox Indy fork in 18", best part about them both is they were free. Pictures to come once I bring them home from the shop.

picked up a 1998 trek 7500 multitrack at my local coop, some kid brought it in said it was crap... the guys there knew it was a good bike,
it needs a new crank and chain, maybe a fd, we'll see... found a replacement crank on ebay for 15 bucks.. identical to the original..
they took 30 bucks for it... sweet deal...been searching for one of these forever!!

wrk101 06-08-12 03:40 PM

Last night's pickup, a Trek 1000 that needed some love.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7217/7...1acc87f2_b.jpg

And this afternoon, after a "few" changes:

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7091/7...d238a3bd_b.jpg

Lets see:

New bottom bracket, replaced wheels (rear was taco'd), replaced FD, new cables and housings, pedals, bar tape, saddle, bearings, chain, freewheel, tires, tubes, etc. Did I mention cables were rusted/siezed into housings? Made it fun to replace that rear brake housing (through the top tube).
