Yeah he was clearing out his garage and just left it on the street for the scrap man. Crazy...got some serial numbers on the base and a label from somewhere called cycle europe UK and a date of 1992. All it needs is some new inner tubes and some odd rust spots cleaning up.
Found the Bianchi serial number thread so i'll post it up there and see what they say. Can't wait to ride it!!!

Got to rant a little more on this one... I've seen a few "diamond in the rough" rust buckets that might look like an "old crappy bike" to some but, those in the know would grab up in a heart-beat and couldn't get it in an OA bath fast enough. But bikes like that in the scrap pile just baffle me! /rant

Now for something totally different, today's garage sale catch. Its a 1921 Kay Dee hacksaw (patent date June 21, 1921). I have to admit, I like old tools almost as much as old bikes. Blade is obviously new.
Handle and adjustment mechanism are pretty neat.

Finished that 1982 Trek 613. Turned out pretty nice. Background is the side wall of my workshop. Exterior paint is next month's project....

Thrifty Bill,
The Trek 613 looks awesome, I love the color.
Yesterday, just prior to starting a 30 mile charity ride here in the Adirondacks, a friend spotted a Fuji and Peugeot at a self storage clearance sale. Below is my 1982 FUJI TEAM, bought for $5.00. That is the as-is photo, prior to any cleaning. About 12 paper towels into it, I am happy to report no rust, and very clean paint. One extremely minor ding in top tube. The rims are gold anodized Ukai 700 X 25c.
I missed the PUG at $10.00. Needless to say, I was 20 minutes late for the start of the ride.

Being a previous owner of a Bianchi, I have to also chime in here and say, "what a save". Great job. being a bike person, it's hard to understand people who would do such a thing. But then there are some people that either just don't know, or care. Or, they just don't want to spend any energy. Now the question is this. How close/good of a neighbor is/was he/she? Could be sticky if they find out that you knew the true value and may make some money off it instead of informing them of it's value.

Have to agree. I have a soft spot in my heart for old Treks, since that was my first serious road bike.

Hi there,
In Amsterdam, this is what you find at the dumpster:

It's a Fongers - Rih. Measures 58st/58tt, which is almost my size. Don't know what to do with it, yet. It's full of braze-ons for stuff I can't even imagine. It seems the more I dismount from it, the better it starts to look.
Fully mounted, it could look like this:
https://fietsen-brommers.marktplaats....fta_ind=3&fs=1
Cheers

As for the bike I'll clean it up and get the rust spots off and give it a ride. Like some other posters have said though, I can't understand how he did not know the value as he must have had purchased it in the first place. Just seen one on eBay go for £350 GBP and the thing is like 10years old. Am really keen to keep it though.

Not a C&V bike, and not particularly high end... Falcon clones of Shimano Lark/Tourney derailleurs, ashtabula cranks, CCM punched steel brakes. Your basic Canadian Tire department store bike.
This was given to me by a friend because she thought I could strip it for parts instead of it going in the trash. Instead, I'm going to clean it up and service it over the Winter and give it (along with a lock) to my one of my nieces next spring for her 14th birthday.
I figure if she can get a summer's worth of riding on it, it will have served it's purpose. If it gets thrashed, left outside or stolen - at least it wasn't a high end bike, and it should do well enough for a kid. She's growing like a weed and is already tall enough for a small women's bike like this one.

Well, its been raining Treks around here in the past week. Just picked up a pair of 1984 Trek 620s, and for a change, they are both my size!
Also, they are on the neat Kuat 2 NV rack I picked up used yesterday. Its a nice hitch mounted rack, with nothing touching painted surfaces. Rack also has a built in work stand. How cool is that??

Check the minimal rim wear.

Unfortunately, this baby is too big for me. Took it on a shake out ride to make sure everything worked. Fortunately, I picked up a couple of 620s my size, so I will be able to one of them a hard look.

There is still hope for thrift stores...
Red Bottecchia with Campagnolo Super Record. Wheels are Mavic Reflexes with Shimano hubs. Seatpost is something cheap and currently stuck in there good. My first Italian. Fully chromed underneath. Columbus SL. Thanks dad.

They are nice for sure, but they weren't at TS prices. And your bike is prime A1 sweet!

While out for a bike ride a few weeks ago, my wife and I found this at the end of a laneway.
It's a Eaton Roadking.
It had a sign that said "Free To Good Home".
We were just a few doors down from my aunts house, so we were able to drop it off there.
I had to wash off a few decade's of basement dust and dirt and my wife cleaned the rust from the chrome.
We sold it cheap to a student who loved it.
