Bikes: A few

He said he did extensive work to the bike in 1995. Had the frame custom painted. Cleaned, greased, and repacked all of the bearings. And, replaced the original seat. I'm thinking he may have also replaced the cassette at some point as it does not look original to me, not that I have any basis for comparison. Tires are terribly dry rotted, but luckily I picked up some spares during Wal*Mart's spring clearance event a couple months ago.

As for what the bicycle is, was told it is a Schwinn Le Tour II. Labeling and badge are absent from the frame, apparently already removed sometime prior to the custom paint job, so just going to assume that bit of information from the prior owner is accurate.

That does look like a repainted LeTour II. Great riding bike. Looks like he used all the original components on it. Here are some of my frame shots for comparison

Bikes: 1970s Itoh

Itoh

This past fall I found this 1970s Itoh at a garage sale for $15. All it needed was tires. The crank housing has SK50224A on it.

Fisher MTB

Scored this Gary Fisher Montare at my favorite local junk store. I wasn't there looking for another bike, but they had two stacked together. First one said "sold", the second was the Montare. I asked how much they wanted for it and when they said "$20.00" I grabbed it and ran. Everything appears to be original equipment. It just needed wheels which I had in my shop.

Fishing in the River

My "catch" yesterday:

See it yet?

How about now?

There's definitely something down there.

Time for the fishing gear.

Well, there it is. Smells like fish.

CL post for "found bike", and stuck it behind my office. I'll check w/ police before doing anything with it... but I think it's a $150 (new) BSO - unbranded everything. Tires (700x23) and tubes (Schrader) may be OK to re-use, along with the aluminum 1-1/8 headset spacers and seatpost, but that thing is trashed. "Sealed" bearings are only so sealed, right?

would love to see an attempt to recover this, just to see what it would take and what is effected. I've always wanted to know what a water bike recovery would be like.

Looks like you have those Sturmey Archer high flange hubs. I have a cotter crank Raleigh Record that has those.

Sorry, no Idea what year yours is though.

Circa 1971 (or is it '72?) - brakes, bars, stem, levers, headset and probably cranks, BB and shifters are stock, maybe the pedals and the straight seat post. I've seen several of these but I don't remember them ever being in a catalog. There are also examples of this model out there in white/lagoon blue like a Gran Sport but marked "Competition" and similarly equipped. My personal favorite version of these bikes - nice score! Campagnolo Tipo hubs are laced to 27-in rims? I think stock on these was some variant of Normandy with sewup rims. Probably some narrow version of a Brooks B-15, -17 or-5 saddle.

Again, nice find!

Bianchi Sport SX

Picked this up yesterday of CL for $100. I think it's a good deal. Has newer looking tires and tape, and possibly brake pads, they look new anyway. Rides and shifts perfect, just needs a little cleaning.

I plan to keep it for myself to replace my Shogun which is a little too small for me.

I need to add a granny ring for the hills where I live. Does anyone know if the front derailleur and shifter will work on a triple? I didn't even check if the front shifter is indexed. It's a Shimano Exage, and the bike appears to be from around 1988.

Thanks!

Oh that's funny. Maybe Sturmey Archer copied the Campy high flange look for the lower end Raleigh's. I've now seen three of these sets on 70's bikes, usually ones with cotter cranks.

That is an amazing deal for $100 IMO! You could probably flip the grouppo and wheels for more than $100 on eBay and build it up with a modern group... no matter what you do, $100 was a great deal for you!

I had a Montare until last fall - broke the frame just above the front derailer mount. I have a EVO/40mm headset wrench and a set of Marzocci xc suspension forks and other bits - if you need anything PM me.

Picked up this Devinci for a song a while back. It had a mildly borked front fork (side impact) that I finally got around to replacing. Has mid-range, late 80s/early 90s Shimano components and 27" wheels. Has plenty of tire clearance for fenders and canti brakes and a triple crank, so I thought it might be a touring bike, but it doesn't have rack mounts on the seat stays. I tried looking up old Devinci catalogs, but couldn't find any from this era. There's no model information on the bike itself -- anyone know what I have here?

Just picked up this giant perigee for $20! Was delighted to see a full shimano 600 tri-colour groupset and mavic wheels with 105 hubs. Luckily for me it was all hiding behind 20+ years of grime - a blessing in disguise as it made the bike run like s**! making the seller want to get rid of it, but protected the groupset well. Gave it a quick degrease/clean and she's come up looking good. Will work on getting her a little more tidy but it's all working perfectly now.

Don't know much about the actual bike so any help would be appreciated. Cheers!

Hey,

Nice bike for the cost. I need you to look at the big chainring and see if it is installed incorrectly. I see the peg out of rotation. It should be under the crank arm. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks.

Grime= money left over for other things

One of those difficult-to-find riparians. Might be wise to check that it is not a protected species.

General?

I found this being hauled away and gave five bucks for it. I think I over spent and I don't know what to do with it. I put a chain on it and rebuilt the bottom bracket just because ( because something made me want to ride it at least once ). Everything needs replacing and I'm not sure what " HI-TEN SPECIAL DESIGNED TUBING " means. If it hadn't been a tall frame I wouldn't have given it a second look. I was surprised that the lugs were shaped and lined.
